    B U S H to police Cuba?

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Wednesday blistered Cuba's regime and challenged the international community to help the people of the communist island shed Fidel Castro's rule and become a free society.

"Now is the time to support the democratic movement growing on the island," Bush said in an address at the State Department.

"Now is the time to stand with the Cuban people as they stand up for their liberty. And now is the time for the world to put aside its differences and prepare for Cubans' transition to a future of freedom and progress and promise."

HAVANA - Fidel Castro is accusing President Bush of threatening the world with nuclear war and famine — an attack on Washington that comes as the White House is set to announce new plans to draw Cuba away from communism.

"The danger of a massive world famine is aggravated by Mr. Bush's recent initiative to transform foods into fuel," Castro wrote Tuesday in Cuban news media, referring to U.S. support for using corn and other food crops to produce gasoline substitutes.

I don't think anyone else in the world had as much of a problem with Cuba anyway.

I mean... the jailing of dissidents and journalists is horrible, and the El "Presidento for Life" was a bit silly, but I don't think Cuba is any different than 15 other Latin American governments who do the same things and sit on the UN, trade openly, play cat and mouse with the CIA, join coalitions of willing, fight half-hearted wars on drugs...

Cuba: same shit, different pile.... just happens to be too close for comfort.

DId he really say that? Wow. The old fox really has lost it. That's just paranoid rambling. He prefers a US that needs oil from the third world? Nobody's gonna send death squads to obtain corn.
