Pelosi's Health-Care Bill "Openly Hostile" to Innovation, Carl Schramm Says

Posted Nov 12, 2009 09:00am EST by Aaron Task in Healthcare Information Related: THC, IHF, AET, CI, WLP, UNH, ESRXMany members of Congress spent Veteran's Day talking to their constituents about the contentious issue of health-care reform. Count Carl Schramm, president and CEO of the Kauffman Foundation and author of (among others) "Health Care and Its Costs", among those worried about the economic impact of reforming health-care.

The House bill passed last weekend would "dampen innovation" in health care, which has been "the most productive" part of the U.S. economy for the past 30 years, Schramm says. Some proponents of the legislation are "openly hostile" to medical progress, he added - without naming names.

The Kauffman Foundation strives to be non-partisan and its main goal is to support entrepreneurship. Schramm's main concern is that higher taxes to pay for a public health-care option will stifle the creation of new businesses, which he says are the biggest drivers of job creation, as discussed in a separate segment.

I've been saying this since Hillarycare. Hillarycare, as bad as it was, would have been better than Obamacare. If they pass this, the world can say goodbye to most of the medical innovation that it currently sees. We lead the world in new treatments, new drugs and new medical devices. That will cease to be true, if this passes.

So if they cut research (and kill the economy) then they can afford to keep treating people without rationing care. Why didn't I think of doing that? OH, I know because in ten years when we are treating people with outdated medicine it will be the same as rationing just no one will notice.

In fact it will be the same as Canada where they use 50 year old microscopes in many labs but all the left can say is that their health care costs are lower than ours.

Good point. Can't afford to stay up with new technology so keep the old stuff around as it still kinda works.

What I hate is that we're adding on to a broken system. The area that they decide to reform is, in my opinion, unreformable. This middle ground will only deteriorate our already damaged system. There are other things we can do that will help the system tremendously that are actually not directly related to it.

To this end, it is my belief that when pollution is found, it should be halted at the source, even if this requires stringent government action against important segments of our national economy."

But this system isn't broken, yet. The government is creating the crisis, and then moving to convince the people that they are the solution.

the only thing I can see here is the feds are forcing this down our collective throats

I guess they better start building more jails

cause a lot of folks I talk with are saying

    to hell with them

they can put me in jail and feed me before I will be forced to take pelosi's healthcare

that is pure totaltarianism and it isn't Constitutional violates the 4th and the 5th and possibly the 14th amendments
Because whenever unlimited power and self righteous compassion are united, you end up with a bunch of self righteous pricks spending other people's money and patting themselves on the back for being compassionate.

A clear indicator that the only thing they can expect if this is passed, is chaos. They are so enormously unattached with real people.

    what gets me is this

insurance won't go into effect until 2013

does not spell out exactly what a Qualified plan is

threatens jail and fines for non compliance

still does not give 100 % of the people coverage

is going to cause massive tax increases (fees)

hurts small business .. you know the ones that actually do the hiring

The reason our costs are lower than yours is the US's continuing use of leeches to treat the pox among your growing warewolf population. That and the small pox blankets given to all expectant mothers in many Southern States.

Weeeee... This is fun, your turn. When we're done maybe we can talk about the real world.
