China's military hacked into the Pentagon's computer network. This of course raised fears it could disrupt the US defence department's computer system. The article from Financial Times went on to say the computer system serving Robert Gate's office was shut down for a period of time. First US bonds, then lead paint and now this.

Hellooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! Serious security issue here. If an illegal immigrant did this a lot of you would be all over this like a fly on crap.

Dosen't surprise me. I seem to remember years ago some spotty teenager on his Amiga 500 hacked into the Pentegon from his bedroom here in Britain. You would have thought that would have tightened their security somewhat by now though!

What is scary about the whole thing is that Gate's system was down. What secrets are encoded there? Wow!

There are always attacks coming from China (not the army). I'm not sure how they determined it was coming from the army and not some random chinese punk.

I found this really amusing article about this subject:

Apparently the Chinese managed to shut down part of a computer system serving the office of defence secretary Robert Gates. This would have prevented him from playing solitaire and could have lead to the collapse of the West as we know it. According to the Financial Times, an internal investigation has revealed that the incursion came from the People’s Liberation Army. It seems to have penetrated  the  networks  of US defence contractors and think-tanks. Since these are currently thinking about telling George to invade Iran this could be a bit annoying.

It should be pointed out that if the Chinese ever wanted to go to war with the US, it would only have to shut down the US's main production operation. Since these are currently in China, no one would have to shoot anyone.

Now that's a little disturbing.

But I don't know too much about networking but I was thinking that if the USA wanted to know where these IP address were located or who owned them, they would have to get info from the ISP. i'm assuming that the ISP is run by the state. So wouldn't the USA have had to done a little "hacking" of thier own first to know this? At least it would make sense to why the US Gov isn't making a big deal about this.

China is just letting us know it isn't scared. I don't really think we need to be worried. We need to worry about their products, not their intentions.
