What kind of outcomes do you expect from this census? Any major changes in our population? This is the second time when you may choose more than one ethnicity. What ethnicities would you consider yourself as?

As for myself, I will fill out...

    - English

    - Irish

    - German

Pretty much take up a good 30% on all three of those. The other 10% is an amalgamation of French, Scottish, and a little Comanche.
"While I am a great believer in the free competitive enterprise system and all that it entails, I am an even stronger believer in the right of our people to live in a clean and pollution-free environment. To this end, it is my belief that when pollution is found, it should be halted at the source, even if this requires stringent government action against important segments of our national economy."

Why is it asked at all?

I find it very interesting to study the ancestral migratory patterns of people into the US.

Then go do your own study, why should the government be asking me such a question on a form whose purpose is to decide who many congressmen each state is to get?

All it really is, is a national ascertainment of the state of the American populace. Trivial things like, percentage of rural to urban, percentage of who aligns with what ethnicity and such. It is used for more than just Congressional data, but also in Geographic and Sociological study. We study census data all the time in different social aspects in my classes.

It is suppose to be used to enumerate for the purpose of appropriated Representatives. It's not business of the government what my ethnicity is, why do they need to know? What does my ethnicity have to do with any "state" of the American populace?

If someone wants to study it they should do it on their own dime.

We don't actually need the information. It's just gathered for the sake of studying it.

More reason it shouldn't even be asked.

Come on now, we actually don't need the information but it's gathered for the sake of studying it. They study it for political purposes, and to suggest no one uses this information yet they ask for it is ludicrous.

    We accept your apology then.

"Cowardice asks the question 'Is it safe?' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it
Politic?' Vanity asks the question 'Is it popular?' But, conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?' And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right."
