With two shootings in two days, gun control might come up in debate... What do you think about our current gun control laws? Too many? Too few? Just right?

I don't believe that the average Joe should have better weaponary than our military or police officers but it seems most crimes are committed with handguns. So I don't think the laws need to be changed as far this goes.

To me, the interesting point that your post brings up is the lack of a "just right" movement. There are anti-gun proponents, pro gun groups, but very few protesters arguing for the status quo.![]()
Take me home Momma and put me to bed. I have seen enough to know I have seen too much.

This thread will probably end up discussing the second amendment, so I'll start it...
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

What does the second amendment mean to you?

Everybody part of a militia should have a gun. Where is my local militia?

Brian Williams on NBC News just now had a report on the shooting at Ft. Hood. The shooter is reported to have had 2 guns with the potential to hold about 40 rounds total. The guy he was talking to (retired Army) "speculated" this potentially raises the question of friendly fire, considering the number of killed and injured. Which potentially pokes holes in the pro gun argument that if every one were carrying guns these kind of situations would be prevented or lessened. The investigation of this is qoing to be very interesting.

I don't mind discussing this with you. However, I really don't feel like being raked over the coals tonight if my views are not the same as yours. If you can agree to a civil debate then I'm game.

"just right"
Some regulation makes sense.
When it comes to GOP stupidity, there's no need to make stuff up.
I would hate to see them use these shooting as an excuse for further gun "control".
'Cause first of all, gun "control", is an oxymoron. You can't control a gun unless
your finger's on the trigger!
What we're really talking about, is controlling the PEOPLE, not the guns!
Gun "control", is kinda like Prohibition, it'll never work in a million years!
Try to take peoples' guns away, and they'll find others on the black market. Or,
they'll make 'em themselves, or find a machinist who can - I mean, what are they
gonna do next, outlaw lathes?
The status quo right now, is on the "coercive edge" of where we should be, as a
country. That is my opinion. I'm okay with the status quo, but I wouldn't want to
see any additional "control" being introduced into that equation.
IMO, gun "control" is wrong-headed in the first place. It's the people pulling
the trigger, the guns have relatively nothing to do with it.
From my own personal standpoint, all I can say is, I can walk right down to the
corner and purchase a clean unregistered handgun for 300 bucks. ANYONE can do it.
Which makes this whole gun "control" thing, kind of a joke, don't you think? Just
like Prohibition - a big gigantic joke! And, such a lousy joke, that the People
repealed it! Quickly!![]()
If we could dis-invent the gun, then gun control would work, since it would start with a level playing field. But since we cant, I'm for ZERO restrictions of the 2nd amendment. Gun control only takes away from law abiding citizens and gives the advantage to criminals who dont follow such controls
I still don't fully understand how any restrictions on the 2nd are constitutional.
The gun has played a critical role in history. An invention which hasbeen praised and demonized, served hero and villain alike, and carrieswith it moral responsibility. To understand the gun is to betterunderstand history. "From Tales of the Gun"
