    Truth From A Democrat

Rep Clyburn says that if the Petreus report on Iraq is favorable that it will split the democrats & then the Dems would be in trouble.
I heard this on local talk radio.
So, the Dems are only worried about their standing against the war for political reasons after all?
Even though I don't agree with Bush & the war in Iraq, at least he sure isn't doing it for political reasons.

Are you sure this was a partisan statement?

Using the logic posted in Vortex's thread about Newt Gingrich, I have to ask: Why would you listen to a Democrat? :dunno:

Or to paraphrase you: Now the Dems are credible? Hmmmmm. Interesting.

    Sarcasm flows freely.

Was this statement by Clyburn edited?

Does is matter if the statement was edited? Migi e!'s point was that, to her, it's interesting that the dems listen to Newt at all....regardless of whether or not the quote was edited. I'm just saying that it's interesting that she would listen to a democrat because he's saying what she wants to hear.

Truthfully, I don't think anyone from the other side who says what we want to hear should be taken at face value and suddenly held up as some bastion of truth telling. But that's just me.

Sarcasm flows freely. I think that's why Mig started this thread.

I'm sure Clyburn misspoke. If he didn't.......well, there'll just be lots of "circling the wagons" to prove it.

I know I can be a bit obtuse at times, but I'm not getting the sarcasm. He apparently did say those things:

In a very telling interview with the Washington Post, House Majority Whip James Clyburn, who unfortunately is from my state of South Carolina admitted that a positive report in September from General Patraeus would, "split Democrats in the House and impede his party's efforts to press for a timetable to end the war."

Is this arrogance or what ? A member of the Democrat leadership actually has the gaul to admit without hesitation that success in Iraq is bad news for Democrats. Cyburn went on to say in the interview in reference to the Democrat , "Blue Dog, "caucus, "I think there would be enough support in that group to want to stay the course and if the Republicans were to stay united as they have been, then it would be a problem for us."
The Liberal Lie, The Conservative Truth

    What am I missing?

It was in answer to her thread, the other side, & the stupidity of it.
However, it isn't just Clyburn, it's other Dems as well, & we knew that if the report even looked like it was going to be favorable that the dems would move the goal post. hey, we have an election coming up, all of them, (dems & repubs) are & will be preening.

Business as usual, their seat first, then doing the work they were elected to do.
