    Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia as an ally to the US or an enemy? I think of them as an ally, rather middle minded and diplomatic in the region, they are a legitimate inspiration to the muslim world and they are slow reformers, but reformers none-the-less. They are also cracking down on terrorism within their country, dealing with princes who support terrorism, and others, and fighting terrorists where they are found.

    Good topic.
I think there's a REAL difference between what they profess and what they really do. They know good relations with the West are vital to their businesses.
But behind the scene, if you closely follow the money flux funding many terrorist groups, you'll find those same princes and officials from Saudi Arabia.
You'll never make me believe Bin Laden family has nothing to do with how Ossoma got into this actual position as the AQ leader.

I disagree, there were some princes giving money but they've died of "mysterious circumstances". At least known princes who were behind funding of terrorists. Remember most terrorist organizations want the Sa'ud family out. Furthermore, the Sa'ud had to fight against the Ikwhan to secure their authority and the Ikwhan are more or less the religious fanatics of their time, 1900s-1930s.

Saudi Arabia are the enemy....they are one of TWO main enemies, the other being Pakistan.

Both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are wolves in sheeps clothing, their pretend "cracking down of the terrorists" is complete and utter bullcrap.

Saudi Arabia are sympathetic to the Radical Islamist Extremists....Saudi Arabia fund the Extremist Madrassas schools in Pakistan, schools that preach hatred of the West, hatred of ALL Westerners, and indoctrinate their 'um, pupils, into thinking that it's both honorable and just in becoming suicide bombers.

Saudi Arabia harbor Al-Qaeda figures and help train them, just like Pakistan do.

Saudi Arabia under NO circumstances can be trusted....Saudi Arabia should be trusted at the Wests peril.

Like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia should be "Regime Changed" NOT by invasion of ground troops and a bombing campaign per se....but by "covert" methods commanded and executed by Special Operational forces such as the SAS and others.

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are Rogue Nations, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are the two BIGGEST terrorist supporting nations....and both nations should be dealt with....instead of messing about in Iraq....the REAL War on Terror and the REAL terrorists are to be found in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Exactly....and I totally agree with the rest of your comments as well....at least you, like I, aren't hoodwinked by the pretence that Saudi Arabia puts forward about being an "ally" of the West and by "cracking down on terrorists".

Heck, I reckon you deserve a wee bit of green.

George W. Bush aka Saudi Arabia's buttboy....likes to babble on about "spreading freedom and Democracy"....

So WHEN was the last time Saudi Arabia had a free General Election? When was the last time Saudi Arabia gave the Saudi people a CHOICE of political parties? When was the last time Saudi Arabia demonstrated that they were both free and Democratic?

When was the last time that women in Saudi Arabia were treated with respect and not like second-class citizens with next to no rights whatsoever?

When was the last time that Saudi Arabia DIDN'T jail people, including Westerners, for drinking alcohol in Saudi Arabia?

Yep, Saudi Arabia are a GREAT inspiration and they are GREAT reformers, aren't they? :sarcasm:

    Re: Saudi Arabia

Why does Saudi Arabia need a free general election? It's still reforming its education system. The US takes a policy of slow reform in Saudi Arabia understanding that anything too rapid would destabalize the region. That would be "gawd awful".

There was a time the US had prohibition and jailed people for selling and consuming alcohol so maybe you shouldn't be so quick to judge.

And women are gaining a much greater role in society from the reforms gaining positions as teachers for instance.

You think the US government has its word on how Saudi Arabia is directed? I think it's the opposite, it's the fcking rich Saudi Arabians who have their words in the US government and politics (mainly by deciding on the number of digits of the US officials' bank accounts). The US government is directed by lobbies, money and foreign interests (Israel anyone?).

Nah, that's what the Right-Wing Nationalistic Reactionaries do....they believe the horsecrap that they see in Rambo and Chuck Norris films....they are incapable of independent thought....they believe the horsecrap that's fed to them by dittoheads like Rush Limbaugh and the Baby Jesus Sean Hannity.

I have evidence....first piece of evidence....Terrorist Sponsors: Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and China, from the Cato Institute, a Right-of-Center think tank:

    Islamic Religious Schools, Madrasas: Background

PBS Frontline: Saudi Time Bomb? Analyses: Madrassas:

A madrassa is an Islamic religious school. Many of the Taliban were educated in Saudi-financed madrassas in Pakistan that teach Wahhabism, a particularly austere and rigid form of Islam which is rooted in Saudi Arabia. Around the world, Saudi wealth and charities contributed to an explosive growth of madrassas during the Afghan jihad against the Soviets. During that war (1979-1989), a new kind of madrassa emerged in the Pakistan-Afghanistan region -- not so much concerned about scholarship as making war on infidels. The enemy then was the Soviet Union, today it's America. Here are analyses of the madrassas from interviews with Vali Nasr, an authority on Islamic fundamentalism, and Richard Holbrooke, former U.S. ambassador to the U.N.

There's tons more links I can provide, but I really don't think I need to provide a ton of links....the facts about Saudi Arabia are very well-known in a wide variety of circles.

Saudi Arabia an ally? Yeah....it's like WOULD you let a rattlesnake into your bed....or would you blow it's head off?
