It is possible to arrest illegals. they do it from time to time now. Think what a laminated photo national id could do to the process?

EAST STROUDSBURG (AP) -- Federal immigration authorities arrested 81 illegal immigrants at a tube manufacturing plant in the Poconos.

All 81 workers arrested in the raid Tuesday at Iridium Industries Inc.'s Artube division have been placed in removal proceedings for eventual deportation, said Ernestine Fobbs, a spokeswoman with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The immigrants, who are from Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia and Ecuador, were taken to ICE detention centers for processing, she said.
Ms. Fobbs declined to say what led ICE agents to raid the plant.
The company makes plastic squeeze tubes for lotions and other consumer products, according to its Web site.

Nantucket police and federal agents swept across the island this morning in a massive immigration raid that by 7:30 a.m. had netted at least 17 people believed to be undocumented aliens with criminal histories.
Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents set up a processing center in the garage of the South Water Street police station, where the detainees were brought before being taken to a waiting Coast Guard buoy tender at Straight Wharf for transport to the mainland around 8 a.m....

A national ID was not needed to do this, just the courage to say , "get out!" A national ID card is not a good idea.

A national ID card is a neccessary idea. It would make the fututre hiring of Illegals much much harder.

We already have national ID's there called drivers license's, along with a national criminal database. How much more intrusion into your privacy do you need the gov to have?

I don't see why people have such a problem with ID cards. It really isn't as much an infringement on privacy as you may think. All it is is a card that identifies who you are, and that you are a citizen of that country. I applied for mine when I was 16 and all they took were my fingerprints. That was nearly 10 years ago and well it was a once of thing, and I've never really thought about it much after that.

We've had in South Africa, since I can remember and it is really not as inconvenient as people may think. Not only does it create a fingerprint database (which is supposed to assist in criminal investigations) but it also makes it difficult for illegal aliens to obtain jobs and bank accounts, because you need to provide your ID book if you want to engage in any kind of financial transaction. In my opnion, if you wanna curb on illegal aliens, implementing such a system is the simplest way.

National ID's are a proven stepping stone to a totalitarian government. The powers that be want everybody to not worry about it as no big thing and that it's necessary for whatever they can dream up.

It's also been proven that if you give Government an inch, they take a mile. In fact, South Africa has a National ID, as your example provides, but as people can tell if they watch that part of the world, it does absolutely nothing to secure the people.

It does nothing for freedom in China, Syria or Vietnam either, where they have National ID Cards too.

The laws they have set up in America for the National ID Card here, and the penalties for not getting one, can render an individual a 'non-person' who won't even have the basic requirements for living, which is against our Constitution.

Example: If Senior Citizens can't get it due to records being destroyed by a fire at the origignal courthouse or the hospital they were recorded in closed down and cannot be verified, they will lose access to all Federal programs. That includes Social Security and Medicare, by the way, which people try not to think about. Not to mention their bank accounts will be frozen until they get a passport, but catch 22, that requires a birth certificate verification too.

Before, they could take the copy of the certificate you had, make sure the State Seal was intact and the information was legable, then hand it back with the approval and issuance of the ID. Now, it HAS to be verified with the source, the issuing agency and there are no exemptions allowed. Uh oh.

And for the record, a Driver's License is the proof you are capable of operating a motor vehicle, and was never intended for a person to be proof of the right to live and prosper, proof that they are an American.

Our Constitution in the 5th Amendment covers that. Our papers are protected to be private. Not because of what People would do, but because of how Governments can and will abuse it. Americans aren't going to be happy in 11 months from now, in fact, quite explosive. To us, this is a no no, and a lot of these senior citizens fought in WW2, fought against countries who demanded to see a person's papers on a whim or else. My Father was one of them, and I'll be damned if his time served and the deaths of my Uncles in that war goes for nothing.

There are legal and Constitional ways to enforce our laws, but the powers that be here don't want us to know that. They hope and pray we are easily fooled, and it scares me they may get what they want.
