Thumbs down USPS eliminates surface/economy mail services

Oh May 14, 2007, the US Post Office eliminated the only economy mail services available the US. Without thinking they single handedly have increased prices for everyone without having to raise rates, which they also did!! What they fail to realize is that there is a massive group of people to whom this is really going to affect. The surface/economy mail elimination will affect individuals, small to medium businesses, expatriates, humanitarian aid groups such as the Peace Corps, the military, students, book companies who provide free books to poor countries, and many more. Their are millions of people that this will affect. The effects of the removal of this service are already seen world wide and are only going to get bigger.

Because of their ignorant thinking I have created a petition in order to let them understand that this service is both utilized and necessary. The petition is located here Bring Back the USPS International Surface Mail Service Petition should have an interest in signing it and passing it on to others who it will affect.

In some ways I think the post office needs to be privatized, but it will never happen.

    Forget that.

Let's start a petition to Amend the Constitution to eliminate the Post Office. It's outlived it's usefulness, and serves now only to send snail-spam everywhere.

I disagree with that. Eliminating the post office when there is not a better alternative, and cost effective service available now would be kinda stupid...

Let the market determine if a "letter delivery system" is needed or not.

Then again, if the USPS would create a "do not mail junk" list similar to the Do Not Call List limiting telemarketers, then maybe the Post Office could earn some respect.

It's really an archaic system, though.

Its also hopelessly corrupt, hugely wasteful, and provides a service inferior to any private company which competes in the same arena.

Ax the USPS and let private firms licensed by the state/fed gov't handle mail.

Their insurance program is a scam too. In order to even get insurance on a package it must be worth at least $50, then if the pkg gets lost or stolen you must have the reciept of the cost of the item. I sew for our grandchildren, made cookies & candy for our gradson while he was deployed, I have noe no reciepts for anything like that.
Most of the employees at my local PO act like they're doing you a favor by even waiting on you.

The only mail I get now (aside from junk mail) are statments that tell me that (insert utility here) has automatically withdrawn money from my account. waste of a tree if you ask me.

As for business, all the companies I have worked for (small or large) don't use the governments mail system, it's too slow. And in some cases, more expensive.

Yeah, all of our bills are paid by direct withdrawl too. We had several experiences of our bills gettin there late when we were using the PO.
I just know we're going to have to start paying taxes for the internet too, the PO is losing $$.

I agree that the USPS has other issues than the one I pointed out, however, there are still people, millions of people, who use their services daily for communciation. Take myself for example, I live overseas and the USPS is the only reliable and cost effective service that I can use at this moment to get items from back home. The humanitairan groups also use the service to donated items and more.

Businesses still use the post office, not all businesses have choosen alternative services. I use other services myself for extrememly large shipments, but for small orders, samples, documents, etc. I use the post office.

As so far, no one has pointed out other services that equal pricing that the US post office can give for economy mail services... Personally I would like to know some...
