Which Do You Prefer? Borrow and Spend or Tax and Spend?

Since the Republicans have amply demonstrated that they can spend money faster than anyone over the last six years of one sided government, I find their assertions that they are fiscal conservatives totally false. Laughably so.

What I see is a party that spends as much or more than any Dem. The only difference I detect at this point is that they demand that we cut taxes for the rich while they spend at record levels. They would clearly rather take the money they are spending from their kids and grand kids than pay for it themselves.

Or course they argue that grows the economy and will generate more tax revenue in the future. Never mind that fact that we are still running a massive deficit and have not even begun to make up the shortfall that they have created with this supposed growth or the fact that when the future bill comes due they will howl about paying the increased taxes then too.

I find that unconscionable. Who robs their children for their own personal gain? What kind of person rips off their own grandchildren to put more money in their pocket now?

So, given that both sides plan to continue to spend like drunken sailors, which would you prefer they do to pay for it?

I'd prefer tax and spend. That way people would actually feel the pain from the spending and might push to reign it in. When you are spending other's money, there is no incentive to curtail it at all.

BTW - Do not bother to complain that I did not include an option for "Don't spend in the first place!". I'm no going to give you any options that the Congress isn't. I don't live in a fantasyland.

Re: Which Do You Prefer? Borrow and Spend or Tax and Spend?

I'm very concerned about the national debt and if no action is taken it WILL come back to bite us in the ass within the next 20 years. I have no problem with deficit spending as long as it is for productive means. Spending those billions and billions of dollars in Iraq is NOT helping our domestic economy one bit. Those billions of dollars are helping Iraqis build up their infrastructure and capital, not ours. Deficit spending on military is for the most part not efficient(for the most part...the technology we get from the military is sometimes very beneficial). Look at it this way, the government spends $x million dollars on a bomb and drops it...there goes that investment. The only way to maintain that type of investment is to continually build and use the bombs, which is completely impractical. Now if that deficit money was taken to build/improve the domestic capital stock it would be beneficial in the long run. As long as the money was spent WISELY on domestic capital the extra output would outweigh the amount of deficit accrued for it.

My preferance was not offered in the poll. Congress needs to tighten it's belt.

My preference isn't there either, but if I had to choose I would say tax and spend. At least that way we could pay as we go and quit giving the tab to our grandchildren to deal with.

It appears that you two did not bother to read the whole post. Note the last line.

This is a binary poll based on political reality not a fantasy where you can act like the politicians are going to stop spending like drunken sailors.

If you can't settle on one of those two options, it is also telling.

I did settle thank you very much

But trying to stop us from complaining is like trying to stop the wind. You should know that.

BTW, I voted on tax and spend since we need to take care of the current deficit in a bad way.

    Hey NOX,

I though you were not wasting any more keystrokes on me.

Since you are back to doind so, how about you go back to that other thread and explain to me on what grounds the Supreme Court decided that Bush's military tribunals were illegal under both the GC and UCMJ.

I was addressing that post to Migi and Nox. You did settle. That also says something. Good for you.
