Thread: Todays Terror Bust AGAIN Confirms That The Best Way To Prevent Terror Is Police Work

I keep hearing all of this "we're fighting them over ther so we don't have to fight them over here" stuff. But, clearly as we keep busting plots to attack the States, the "fighting them over there" is not keeping us from "fighting them over here".

And how are we fighting them here? With police work and tips from the public. There is case after case of such police work and tips driven busts most recently the one today and the recent plot to attack a NJ army base. Same deal with the plot to blow up planes over the Atlantic with liquid bombs. There are many more such examples to point to.

Note that these busts are not coming as a result of the war in Iraq. They are not coming from warantless wiretapping of Americans. They are not coming because we tortured the info out of a detainee.

They are coming from tips and infiltrating these groups with undercover police and FBI agents. Sound police work.

Meanwhile, we see things like the NIE that says that our occupation or Iraq is a "cause celeb" for terrorist recruitment and has grown the number of Al Qaeda and like groups making us even more enemies to worry about.

So, why do people keep asserting that our war is preventing terrorism?

Why do they sneer in disgust at anyone that suggests that police work is the most effective way to prevent terrorism?

I just wonder how many more examples of this we need to see before people deal with the reality of fighting terror. It is not like the numerous examples so far do not make the point. Yet, we keep hearing the same old propoganda.

Police work here is all that can work, according to the Constitution. No?

Many police officers and FBI officers have said that the Patriot Act has been a huge help to them in catching terrorists.

The Patriot Act is not really what I was talking about. But, I'll be more than happy to read the links you provide to back that up.

What I was talking about is two specific things. First, the war supposedly stopping terrorism here by "fighting them over there" which is clearly bullshit propoganda. Second, the attacks on folks that suggest that police work is the most effective tool to head of attacks by folks on the right that say that is totally misguided, naive, dangerous, etc. which is also clearly bullshit propoganda.

How many more cases like this do we have to see before those two totally bogus arguments are thrown on the pile of other lies and spin foisted by the right since 9/11?

I see people make those two arguments here all the time. It would seem that the many folks that repeat this nonsense should be here defending it. They push it on all kindfs of other threads.

I guess it may just be an undefensible set of positions given the facts at hand. If that's the case, I assume all those people that say that here so often will stop repeating this nonsense.

Yeah, although the Constitution has not stopped Bush from setting up unconstitutional programs like the domestic spying. I can point to plot after plot that was broken by police work. I can't think of a single case that the illegal domestic spying has busted open.

And it does not really address the mani two questions re: fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here or the constant abuse hurled at folks that say police work is the most effective way to deal with the threat. Any thoughts on those two points? Would you agree that those two arguments are totaly unsupported by the documented facts?
