Limbaugh Duped By Obama Thesis Hoax

Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh was duped Friday by a fake quote attributed to the Columbia University thesis of President Barack Obama.

Conservative author Michael Ledeen posted the phony quote on his blog last Wednesday, and goes as follows:

â€œâ€¦ the Constitution allows for many things, but what it does not allow is the most revealing. The so-called Founders did not allow for economic freedom. While political freedom is supposedly a cornerstone of the document, the distribution of wealth is not even mentioned. While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty, it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy.â€

Producers for The Rush Limbaugh Show did not properly fact check the quote and rushed to the airwaves with the bogus text, which the conservative icon immediately used as a launching pad to berate Americaâ€™s 44th president:

This Michael Ledeen ass-hat has seen a decline or increase in hits from his target audience? Funny - it was posted on his "Conservative Blog". That's not a hoax folks. That's a fucking liar doing what he does best. Lying. Lie lie lie lie lie. ANd it seems he's skated away clean because a bigger fish took the ball and ran with it. I hope his name is remembered by Conservatives so they don't believe a single word he writes in future.

Not to mention the fact that he may or may not have raped and killed a young woman in 1990.

P-Bo DID said the thing was a charter of negative civil liberties so people never bothered to question the legitimacy of the quote. It sure sounds like something he would say.

I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed people, so that now I would have the right to vote. I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order as long as I could pay for it Iâ€™d be o.k. But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasnâ€™t that radical. It didnâ€™t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties
