So Much For Claims From The "Free Scooter" Crowd That Plame Wasn't Covert.

Of course that was all bullshit spin from the start anyway. I can't imagine that anyone really though that the CIA asked for an FBI investigation into the outting of a covert agent when they knew full well she was not covert at all.

Plame was ‘covert’ agent at time of name leak

Newly released unclassified document details CIA employment

WASHINGTON - An unclassified summary of outed CIA officer Valerie Plame's employment history at the spy agency, disclosed for the first time today in a court filing by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald, indicates that Plame was "covert" when her name became public in July 2003.

The summary is part of an attachment to Fitzgerald's memorandum to the court supporting his recommendation that I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Cheney's former top aide, spend 2-1/2 to 3 years in prison for obstructing the CIA leak investigation.

The nature of Plame's CIA employment never came up in Libby's perjury and obstruction of justice trial.

    Undercover travel
The unclassified summary of Plame's employment with the CIA at the time that syndicated columnist Robert Novak published her name on July 14, 2003 says, "Ms. Wilson was a covert CIA employee for who the CIA was taking affirmative measures to conceal her intelligence relationship to the United States."

Plame worked as an operations officer in the Directorate of Operations and was assigned to the Counterproliferation Division (CPD) in January 2002 at CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.

The employment history indicates that while she was assigned to CPD, Plame, "engaged in temporary duty travel overseas on official business." The report says, "she traveled at least seven times to more than ten times." When overseas Plame traveled undercover, "sometimes in true name and sometimes in alias -- but always using cover -- whether official or non-official (NOC) -- with no ostensible relationship to the CIA."

So, Scooter is going to jail for his crimes. I don't know what else we are supposed to want from him now. There have been some serious leaks on national security, classidied documents stolen, yet these people are fat free & happy. I have & do wonder what the underlying story is about this VP case, it has to be more than her name being leaked & Scooter not remembering discussing it.

All I want from him is to do his time. That was not really the point.

And Scooter was not convicted of "not remembering" he was convivted of multiple counts of intentionally lying under oath, and to FBI investigators to obstruct justice. There is a big difference and folks like you should really internalize that major difference. As you matter of factly assert that he innocently didn't remember, you clearly have not come to terms with the facts yet.

The point was that for a very long time I've been seeing folks on the right argue that Plame was not covert. I don't know if you ever advanced that theory.

Did you ever advance that theory yourself?

I have a huge problem with underlings going to prison for lesser crimes that the big'uns commit that pay a fine, or lose their license to practice law, & that's it. I'm funny like that. Fair & equal justice.

How is this different than ABC leaking our plan for Iran? That was classified and could seriously jeopardize national security, yet no one seems to care about that.

It isn't as bad frecks, but they can't get a prize for going after ABC or whoever leaked it to them.

I figured if I did a little looking I'd find several folks that definitely had advanced that theory as it was grade "A" bullshit spin from the right. Some here seem to be experts in that.

So I wonder if we'll see these folks come on in to admit that their theory was crap. I didn't see anything like this from TD. But, I would be suprised to find out that was not some of the "truth" he detected too.

    From JOM:
Re: 'Scooter' Libby guilty on four of five counts
Valerie Plame was not a covert agent. If she was then indeed there would have been a crime commited. Richard Armitage revealed to Novak that Plame worked at the CIA office. If this was a crime Fitzgerald knew it in the first days of the investigation. so why is Armitage not in jail now? Because there was no crime.

    From kmiller:
Re: 'Scooter' Libby guilty on four of five counts
Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame outed themselves..... and the CIA backed them up because Bush was trying to re-organize the government.

This is so totally obvious to anyone with half a brain. Of course, it has little to do with Libby who was involved in a whisper campaign to discredit Wilson.

Much ado about nothing but bloodsport. No crime. Just a shadow play which led to a process crime...

They thought they had Watergate and all they got was Libby? Pathetic....

    And uh...:

Re: Did Valerie Plame Perjur Herself?
Who knows that she was covert? She doesn't know it. When asked at the hearing if she was covert, her answer was, "I'm not a lawyer, I don't know"
If Plame doesn't know what she was, how does anybody else?

Oops! Lookie there. Looks like Migi did make that bogus argument after all. Why does that not suprise me?

I guess it would be time to publicly retract that.

No wonder there was question ducking in progress.

No. I most certainly never advanced that rediculous theory. Looks like you did though.
