    Iran Remains Bold

    link
"VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran has not only ignored a U.N. Security Council deadline to stop uranium enrichment activity but expanded it, according to a confidential International Atomic Energy Agency report obtained by Reuters on Wednesday.

Iran's defiance of another 60-day deadline set by the Council when it imposed a second set of sanctions on March 24 will expose Tehran to tougher penalties over its nuclear work, which the West fears is a front for assembling atom bombs.

"Iran has not suspended its enrichment-related activities. Iran has continued with the operation of their pilot fuel enrichment plant and with construction of their (planned industrial underground) enrichment plant," the U.N. nuclear watchdog said in its report."

When is the UN going to realize that they don't have any real diplomatic options with Iran? We don't even have any viable military options as Asia would be forced to protect Iran for their oil supply. The only real option is a compromise between China and Iran, where China would oversea the construction of Iranian Nuclear Power plants, while doing all the uranium enrichment in China. Russia could also aid in the enrichment process. The Iranians would get cheap power, which would boost the Iranian economy and could even lower the price of oil globally.

Instead of threatening Iran, we need to work with them to help build their economy. Once the people are living lives of wealth and leisure, the likelihood of any military action from Iran would be significantly decreased, as it would of course mean an end to the lives of wealth and leisure.

By all means, show Iran that we mean business. But, let's also be pragmatic.

yeah, well we kinda expected Iran to remain the same.
but it's up to them to build their own economy, the US can't go around rescuing countries that are failures and want to wipe Israel off the map...

They cost of not doing business with Iran far out ways the cost of doing business with Iran. And even if we don't, the Chinese or the Russians could step in. Iran can destroy the world economy. Thus, they are in a position of power. We have to get them to stop their pursuit of nuclear weapons. The only reasonable way of doing that is by getting the Chinese or Russians to build their nuclear infrastructure.

the cost of not dealing with Iran would mean physical devastation for the US.

Do you think the world economy could withstand the removal of the Iranian oil supply from the oil market?

Nuclear weapons are too dangerous to build at any cost. The US should quickly demobilize their nuclear facility at all costs before it becomes too late.

I still say its time to take care of our own back yard.

Start building nukes, point them at every major city in the world, and issue a statement: "We'll continue to trade with any nation who wishes to trade with us, but we will no longer spend a red cent in foreign aid, in defense of foreign nations or in influencing the policy of these nations. You're on your own, fuck with us and become a parking lot! Have a nice day!"

Then spend the hundreds of billions we'd save to research a viable alternative fuel source and let the world fix or fuck itself while we sit back and eat popcorn.

And you don't find it a bit naive to think that the US could survive, in the manner in which we are accustomed, in isolation? Or are you saying, at least we'll survive. So screw it, let everyone else kill each other?
