"VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran has not only ignored a U.N. Security Council deadline to stop uranium enrichment activity but expanded it, according to a confidential International Atomic Energy Agency report obtained by Reuters on Wednesday.
Iran's defiance of another 60-day deadline set by the Council when it imposed a second set of sanctions on March 24 will expose Tehran to tougher penalties over its nuclear work, which the West fears is a front for assembling atom bombs.
"Iran has not suspended its enrichment-related activities. Iran has continued with the operation of their pilot fuel enrichment plant and with construction of their (planned industrial underground) enrichment plant," the U.N. nuclear watchdog said in its report."
When is the UN going to realize that they don't have any real diplomatic options with Iran? We don't even have any viable military options as Asia would be forced to protect Iran for their oil supply. The only real option is a compromise between China and Iran, where China would oversea the construction of Iranian Nuclear Power plants, while doing all the uranium enrichment in China. Russia could also aid in the enrichment process. The Iranians would get cheap power, which would boost the Iranian economy and could even lower the price of oil globally.
Instead of threatening Iran, we need to work with them to help build their economy. Once the people are living lives of wealth and leisure, the likelihood of any military action from Iran would be significantly decreased, as it would of course mean an end to the lives of wealth and leisure.
By all means, show Iran that we mean business. But, let's also be pragmatic.
