In the late 70's America was infected by a man named Carter that took this country to the brink of disaster. I remember the national mood. (even though I was just a child) People were not happy, not proud to be American, not hopeful, and it appeared that American greatness was a thing of the past.

Then a REAL Man named Ronald Reagan, like a hero on a white horse came and reminded Americans why we were a great nation. In a instant we became PROUD again. Our hockey team beat the Russians in a miracle win, Iran backed down and our economy soared once again. I remember that mood as well. I remember being proud to be an American. I miss that feeling, I miss HOPE, I miss knowing that we were the good guys and that we had a leader that loved this country and wanted us to do well. We need Ronald Reagan like never before, but he is gone. So I ask, who will be our next Ronald Reagan? Who will lift America up again and set us on the right path?

WHO WILL MAKE AMERICA PROUD ONCE AGAIN?

    Sigh.......

Where is our next Ronald Reagan?

I can't believe you thought this was so brilliant that you posted it on two different forums. You're not even making a real point here.

Nazi Germany was proud, the Japanese were proud, I could go on, but you get my point. Usually, when there's a lot of nationalist pride going on in a country, it's for all the wrong reasons.

....Yeah! We NEED someone to illegally negotiate arms for hostages, daggumit! And where the hell are the illegal wars - South America is just too damned peaceful right now!
As a Democrat, I take solace in the fact that the Republicans have nominated the guy who lost the nomination to the guy who lost the presidency to the guy who is now the President.

I'm not sure which America you lived in during the Carter years but the one I lived in was vastly different. The economy was strong enough that my dad was able to finish the aeronautics program at Perdue while working as an engineer for a company that produced systems for NASA. It was good enough that my family and I took a cross country trip in an RV. It was good enough that we laughed, had family time together and were happy. It was good enough that I was able to go to an average of 15 concerts a year. I was a teenager during the Carter years.

I voted for Reagan. I do remember the hostage release. I remember Iran Contra. I remember my friend Bryan being killed while on a Reagan mission to Ecuador. I remember Reagan turning his back on the chance for AIDS research before the disease had a name and went on to kill millions. I remember the government wasn't taking in as much income as it was paying out. I remember reaganomics and how well that didn't work. I remember my neighbors starting to lose their jobs. I remember when my friend's moms had to enter the workforce. I remember watching Reagan talk and wondering if he was a liar or was delusional. As sad as it is I was actually relieved to have found out that he had Alzheimer's and wasn't really clueless.

So while some may yearn for that "shining city on a hill" I remember that sometimes the man behind the curtain isn't really all that we make him out to be.

The "perception" of Reagan is greater than the actual man. You want to feel hope again. You want to feel proud to be an American again. Hate to tell you this but hope and pride are not because of who is President. Hope and pride come from the type of Americans that WE ARE.

Do you feel better when you walk past a homeless person on the street or when you help in some small way? Did you feel pride when you watched the FEMA workers sitting around on their asses waiting on clearance or when you saw the everyday man take his fishing boat and pluck people off of rooftops? This country has divided itself into partisan hatred. You're either with us or you're against us. One party whines and the other gloats. Civil conversations are gone and replaced with attacks and hate. Failures of administrations are celebrated. What kind of people are we?

The way the people in this country treat each other over stupid things is incredulous. If there is such a leader to inspire and take us to a better "place" he or she probably isn't even born yet. Until we can put the partisan hack mentality aside and behave as rational, decent, and compassionate people we aren't deserving of the type of leader you describe.

So to answer your question who will make America proud again? We will. Or we won't. That's up to each of us.
