Perhaps you could explain why he never used them? I mean, what is the point of having these weapons, and all the bullshit you've had to put up with sanctions and inspectors and all the rest, if you're going to let someone else take over your country anyway and you're left hiding in a hole in the ground until you're caught with nothing but a pistol and executed?

I'm willing to bet Saddam possibly had some goodies somewhere and either hid them or turfed them when the UN came sniffing or just before the war started (as he did have lots of warning like somebody said already). WHat we do know for sure is that he did not have the means to make his own. He didn't have the ability to make his own chemical biological or nuclear weapons... and the gas he used on Iran and the Kurds all came from the US, thats undisputed fact and a matter of public record... the helicopters that delviered it were also US delivered and the pilots were US trained.. so if he DID have any WMD... who gave them to him?

The answer makes the question kind of meaningless.

I used to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Now, I've concluded that he probably knew he was BSing. Is that an outright lie? I dunno.

But I think there's a general mood in darker corners of the Republican party that "father knows best" and the ends justifies the means.


...I'll try to come up with some other clichés later.

You can have weapons materials without having them ready to use. Sadaam was trying to maintain his image as a man of power and biding his time until sanctions were lifted. He was using oil for food money to position himself for a later comeback. That's my theory and it's just as provable as the idea that all wmds and wmd materials were destroyed.

But it always comes down to a Bushian tap dance on this issue, km. I mean we were told in 2003 of DEFINITE IMMEDIATE threats with future mushroom clouds.

Now, after the fact, the administration and the hawkish blogosphere dances from "sort-of" to "could have" to "mightabeen" rationales.

I seam to remember a general of Saddams comming forward with information that Saddam had ordered the use of poison gas missles against the US soldiers.. Am I wrong in this? does someone else remember this bit of quieted news?
