Thread: Should Affirmative Action be Abolished?

Should it? I think it should. It prevents people from hiring who they want. For one thing, if a white guy happens to be more qualified than the black guy, the black guy gets hired/enrolled. Also, if the employer happens to be racist, then he has less choice since he can only choose whites while the non racist employer can choose who he wants and drive the racist employer out of bussiness. The free market is the best example of affirmative action you will find.

I wanted to make this a poll but this internet sucks.

My closest friend in life is the person this board knows as Water. He's more like family than anything else. And he's black.

I cant imagine what it would be like to be black...because I'm white. White people say they can imagine it, but I dont see how....they're white.

Water tells me he sees this as a slap to the face. Its liberal whites, in their infinite arrogance, telling blacks, "We feel just horrible for that whole slavery thing...and that whole racist thing! Here....here's jobs we'll juat hand to you, since we all know there's no way you ever could get these jobs based on your own merits!", then congratulating themselves for how "compassionate" they are.

Assholes.

This is part of the problem, not part of the solution. This raises barriers, it doesnt break them down...and the biggest barriers it erects from my point of view are in the minds of black Americans.

Are we a nation ready to give it up and know things will be relatively fair?
I am NOT saying they are fair now, but the law is made to regulate it in a way.

they WILL not be fair, thats the point..
as i said before im not for an unqualified black guy getting a job just cause hes black..BUT if there isnt SOME kind of protection for the blacks bigotted whites will hire unqualified white guys before they hire QUALIFIED black guys or girls.

and if people are honest with temselves, they know this is true

I can completely understand that. These days, employers are far more worried about getting sued than being fair (qualifacation).

Absolutely not. But are you saying all EMPLOYERS are white?

All employers are not white and even if they were, not all are racist.

That's right, however there are some laws that exist supposedly to create opportunities for minorities which serve to force a potential employer to consider race when choosing a canidate. Strange, isnt it?
