And it's not like they are struggling because they don't have jobs - they are retired. Now AARP is chiming in:

“On behalf of our 40 million members nationwide, AARP would like to express our strong support for providing America’s seniors with $250 in emergency relief as the appropriate legislative response to the projected lack of a Social Security cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in 2010.”

It's a fucking bribe. No, actually it's extortion by AARP in return for support for health care reform.

    Bullshit.

They are not receiving a cost of living raise, yet the dollar tanked 25% as did their buying power. They want relief.

Domestic prices tanked too. That's why there's no cost of living raise. Fucking senior socialists, always whining about their handouts....

How do you get it is extortion?

    I'm not following your thinking.

Actually consumer prices are on the rise, it has started with energy, medical, and now trickling down to food. For the first time in decades, the seniors are not getting their cost of living increase. I stand by these people. The system was initially set up to guard against this, but it is a ponzi, and fresh money is getting harder to find as unemployment is increasing.

As of right now, consumer expenses are down. Maybe they'll have risen my next year. Maybe not. But decisions for COLA increases are made at a specific time, and reflect activity for the previous year. But like I said, the whole system smacks of socialism. I'm paying tens of thousands of dollars into social security. And by the time I'm eligible to collect, the system will likely no longer exist. And yet for the most part, it's the old people - the last generation that will benefit from the plan - who are whining about their COLA increase for one year. Fuck that... I might not see a goddamn dime. Retired seniors should cash their social security payments, cash their $250 bonuses, and send me a nice thank you note for making it all possible at my expense.

Anyone why is against socialism should actively campaign for an immediate end to social security payments.

I should have said "continued support". So AARP endorsed health care reform, then comes out and says seniors should get $250 bucks apeice for "emergency relief". I just think AARP putting it's muscle behind this idea is not a coincidence.

The cost of living has gone down in the last year. What do retirees need more money for?
