How long did the media report what US officials said about Zarqawi's role in Iraq? How come I knew it was propaganda from the beginning and they didnt?

The U.S. military is conducting a propaganda campaign to magnify the role of the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, according to internal military documents and officers familiar with the program. The effort has raised his profile in a way that some military intelligence officials believe may have overstated his importance and helped the Bush administration tie the war to the organization responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The documents explicitly list the "U.S. Home Audience" as one of the targets of a broader propaganda campaign.

Exactly right, this tripe constitutes hearsay of the worst sort. It saddens me to know that a Pulitzer Prize winner would write it.

The documents state that the U.S. campaign aims to turn Iraqis against Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian, by playing on their perceived dislike of foreigners. U.S. authorities claim some success with that effort, noting that some tribal Iraqi insurgents have attacked Zarqawi loyalists.

For the past two years, U.S. military leaders have been using Iraqi media and other outlets in Baghdad to publicize Zarqawi's role in the insurgency. The documents explicitly list the "U.S. Home Audience" as one of the targets of a broader propaganda campaign.

Your quote has some unamed source and some un revealed inside document. All military campains have a press corp. Yes they print news. Yes they try to control what is said or leaked. But is this some sort of cotraversy. I do not see it. Who really cares what role or inflated role Zarqawi had. This is not a big deal. Not at all. Ask anybody here to answer you. Ask them if it is a big deal. Nobody will care.

Honestly, what is the point in this post? Are you trying to say that a known terrorist who was known to fight the Americans needed to be played up in order to kill him? Or are you saying that our military covers things up, inflates the portraits, or otherwise underhandedly took him out?

He was a terrorist, fighting America, so that makes him an enemy and he was taken out. Good one less doorknob in the world.

Forget the conspirator he was because the US didn't use the correct bureacracy to take him out.. right?

Seriously though horhay, what is the point you are trying to make here? And there, oh and over there too?
