Self Indentification Disclosures- Fair or unfair?

I've been applying for jobs and I've noticed that all major companies ask that I fill these out. Does anyone else who is NOT a minority feel uncomfortable filling these out? Like doing so might be held against you? Do they look down on the people that do not fill these out? Will they be less likely to call you if you are not the minority needed for their government mandated quota?

Does anyone else besides me have an issue with the government setting these 'quota' rules that require companies (mostly corporations) to ask these sort of things? As a 'Caucasian' I find these to be a major detriment to my career success. If I am unable to even obtain an interview to show a future employer that I am the right fit for their company because of my race, how is that not harming me?

In the industry I work for, most are girls, so I'm not a minority. Old horny Dr's prefer a cute blonde over a man any day.

I only have one chick working here, and being a sexy pimp, I'm the only minority. I hire the best applicant for the job, and I am forced to consider race because of risk factor. I would think with major companies, they tend to hire the best applicant, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Then again, I've never really had a J O B.

The federal gov't will hire a minority first, qualifications have nothing to do with it. I've seen it. In fact, an instructors job came open & there were several applicants. A woman got the job, a woamn with a felony on her record, she spent 5 years in womens prison for drug posession with intent to sell (cocaine & heroin). But, she was the only woman that applied & it was a womans turn to get an instructors job in that particular school. She recieved her BA in prison.

Good for her, it's nice to hear the rare story that shows a system worked for someone. Maybe she was a great interview, maybe she was the best applicant, or maybe none of the males stood out. I'll tell you this, if I had someone apply who met a certain criteria, and no one else stood out, I'd hire the person with the attributes that I find to be favorable.

Like I said, it was a womans turn, she did not have the qualifications, she fit one criteria, the fact that she was a she. Her degree was in modern art & she was hired to teach security services. BTW-She was hired in at a GS-9, demoted to a GS-5 in less than a year & was "moved".

Being a woman or not being a woman is an acceptable atribute to judge when deciding who to hire, just as being black or not being black is.
In many cases, companies try to hire as few minorities as possible, so it could be that she was taking a mans position who never should have had the chance in the first place because a more qualified woman was passed on for being a woman. As an employer, I've used these hiring practices to protect myself from suit.

I'm not following you. Are you saing that qualified or not, so long as a person fits a quota criteria they should be hired?
