Well it is not as explicit as all that. But many Afghan, Vietnam and other war veterans do become mercenaries. These mercenaries can be hired by private companies to protect the company's assets and its workers, that are present in areas of conflict.

Unlike most businesses these transactions and agreements cannot be fully monitored. Not only that, but they can be made without prior approval from any government entities or the police. Therefore the behavior of the mercenaries go mostly unnoticed, or purposely overlooked, because many of the mercenaries are respected and well-known individuals amongst the military and the police.

So there isn't much to stop them from doing pretty much whatever they want.

As long as their employers consider their behavior acceptable and are willing to fund the bill - all is OK.

Any one can "trial" them. And they are contracters, which means that they are not allowed to go on offensive combat roles. the only things they are alllowed to do are escorts and guarding shit.

Seriously, stop listenining to Al Jazeera propaganda.

Four were killed in Fallujah and two were hung from a bridge. Most Americans think sub-contractor means Engineers or labor workers but this is not the case most of the time. Blackwater was also in New Orleans they joined the Hurricane Relief Effort or were there to enforce in other words. Rumors have it they are the ones confiscating guns from people that had permits for them. They were also blamed for mistakenly killing a missionary and his daughter in Iraq. But of course they claim they are working for Home land Security and HLS denies it. The thing is in New Orleans they were said to have a Louisiana state law enforcements badge and blackwater ids on their arms and had an id around their neck Operation Iraq Freedom.

There are mercenary groups like Blackwater USA, Titan, Eastern Company and such.......these are groups for hire. Which I think is a good idea. Let the people who want to risk their lives go and take down terrorism. Thus, the terrorists are no longer fighting a country, but another sect; just as the US is now.

We need to fight fire with fire (not the greatest analogy).....someone to do the dirty work in the trenches undercover.

You so smart okebrain: no wonder we agree

But I was just trying to highlight the fact, that we will rarely see a mercenary being prosecuted by a criminal court or a military tribunal, because their actions are welcomed by governments who don't want to fit the bill for additional safety and security in their countries.

If something isn't broken why fix it right? To them it's an easy way out, no one has to take responsibility for the mercenaries' actions, and governments don't have to worry about the cost attached to sending troops into areas of conflict.

As expected from governments, nothing new, he?

This is exactly what I have been saying all along, though I didn't think of the mercenary idea, I like that. Yet I've seen no politician think up this idea. Why?

Haliburton is the BEST at what they do......I have family that worked in the oil business for decades, and they have first hand experience with the professionalism and efficiency of their work.

Why would you hire a horrible barber......when you can hire an internationally acclaimed barber for the same price? It's the same concept with Haliburton.
