Hunting:Are you for or against? What are your thoughts?

I'm for hunting for several reasons.

1: Many people don't see it this way, but when you really consider it, it actually IS neccesary for survival, even nowadays. Think about it. Using a deer example. What would happen if deer hunting was stopped? Well, obviously they would overpopulate, but what would be the effect? I mean when you think of overpopultation what do you think of exactly? Well, I'm guessing that the deer would eat alot of the crops. I can see people starving to death because of the refusal to hunt the deer. Or Turkeys. I have alot of first hand experiences with Turkeys and well, let's just say . . . they've destroyed alot of my property.
2: As long as it is done legally and the entire animal is used and it is done in moderation..etc etc.
    3: There are many regulations.
4:I know this seems selfish but I absolutely love venison and turkey and other hunted meats etc. etc.
    5:I go hunting myself.

People aren't just going around shooting everything they can! If they see a turkey, but it's not turkey season...it's illegal to shoot it! They actually have police-type people that are especially for making sure they don't shoot the wrong animal in the wrong season.

People aren't allowed to shoot turkey after turkey, or dear after dear. There's a limit to how many of these that they can shoot...not just per day or per weak, but per season!

This helps the environment! If it were illegal to hunt, if nobody hunted at all...there would hardly be any animals left, believe it or not! The habitats would become crowded and the animals would get sick and die. There also wouldn't be enough food to maintain such a vast number of animals!
So what are your thoughts? Yes/no and why?

oh yes, on another note, I found this on a chat forum on another site.

    Here's a few more facts:

Hunting is only allowed between an hour before dawn and and hour after dusk.

    Hunting licences/tags exspire.

You have to pay 30 dollars per tag.

There's a limit to the tags you can buy

Ethical (non legal) laws are huge where I live, here are a few:

Never shoot a female with a baby

    Only shoot if you'll keep

Only take enough tags to help feed your family.

Im fine with it as long as the animal feels no pain. So aim for the head.

Another good thing about it is if an animal has been injured then it wont have to suffer || I forgot to mention that.

Hunting for food is a right, killing anything just for the sport is not my bag....but others may disagree.

Well, it seriously depends. For example, if you use the entire animal except the antlers then hsnap:

All except for the antlers? Wild boars, turkeys, ducks, they don't have antlers.

Hunting....clearly it's far more humane to restore the region's former top predators, typically wolves, sometimes cougars, and let them maintain the deer population. Getting harried, bitten, clawed, chased, bled, and eaten while still alive is clearly the deer's preferred mode of dying. Can't beat that last, final adrenalin rush, right?

I'm sure they just shudder at the thought of a clean (or dirty) bullet and a quick end.

Better, yet, ban all hunting altogether, and watch the deer population soar without end. Oh wait. Who's gonna plant all that grass and hay to feed them. I guess we can post web cams all over the forest and enjoy watching the deer starve in the winter.

Or, we can have the maturity to recognize that homo sapiens evolved as a hunting, killing, carnivorous ape, and that as the most successful predator the world has ever seen we've displaced all the competition, and that by doing just that we've assumed the responsibility of culling the species that evolved population control metheods dependent on predation of it's weakest members.

Where human predation violates several hundred million years of evolution is that humans select the best and strongest animals for harvesting, because we can, because it's easy, and over thousands of generations this will lead to the evolution of smaller, weaker prey animals.

But grow up, people. If the private hunter can't go out and bag a buck, it will soon be necessary for the government's to cull the animals itself. And there's a whole history of the illegality of private parties poaching the government's animals, now isn't there?

Hunting is necessary. Because of encroachment of civilization natural predators have been pushed back or reduced greatly, and animal populations as a result have exploded. There are literally in most states, especially the midwest, several times more deer now than when those states joined the union and were "pristine".

Illinois is a prime example. When the state joined the Union (1818) it was estimated there were 150K to 200K deer in the state. At one time hunting in the US had reduced the white tail deer nationwide to around 500K total. In the 20's legislation in most states banned taking does. The result was a population explosion. Today in Illinois alone there are over 3/4 million deer.

The results are devastating. These deer are destroying forested areas and playing hob with agriculture. There HAS to be a predator, and man is it.

If we dont hunt deer in many states you'll see hundreds of thousands of deer die of starvation, but only after they've completely annihilated the forests and grasslands in those states, and potentially take dozens of other species with them to extinction.
