The Case for a Universal Age of Consent

The age of consent should be consistent throughout the entire US. What would happen if someone considered a minor in one state came from another state where they werent? I am not an advocate of laws that vary from state to state.

The argument is simple. The age of consent should be eighteen or lower universally, simply because the law recognises people of eighteen as legal adults and as such should be regarded as adults in every respect - including the age of consent.

It is your responsibility to be familiar with the laws of the state in which you reside or are visiting. States should have the right to set the laws for what they see is fit. This is actually a good thing. It gives people a choice of what state they associate the most with.

If that is the only reason then it is utterly superfluous.

I have seen that word used several times and now that I feel stupid enough I finally decided to look it up. Thed efinitions I found were, extra, unnecessary,
and extravagant. Unless you have a different definition in which you can enlighten me I don't really see how it fits?
But, anyway, I believe states should have the ability to set laws as they see fit as long as it is in within the limits of the Constitution. I don't believe the national government has the power or should have thw power to micromanage the states authority in this matter.

The context I was using was unecessary. ^_^

Well I believe that the law should be consistent from state to state.

Eighteen is just fine, thank you. It doesn't need to be any lower.

    and that is their choice.

The law allows for minors to be emancipated- and thus they may form legal contracts before they are 18. Beyond that limited application I don't see a need for the age of consent to be lower than it currently is.
