So how is it, again that history doesn't matter? I mean, wouldn't it matter if we're not just practicing an intellectually dishonest exercise in self justification and approval for doing the things we WANT to do?
It doesn't matter in this case, because it's pointless.

"We didn't need to go in." I KNOW THAT! STFU! PLEASE!
"There wouldn't be so many people dead if we hadn't gone in." I KNOW THAT! STFU! PLEASE!
"We didn't make Iraq a better place." I KNOW THAT! STFU! PLEASE!

NONE OF THESE STATEMENTS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE DISCUSSION AT HAND, WHICH IS, "SHOULD WE LEAVE?".

It's like they're TRYING to piss me off.

Oh, history's a pretty good guide to that. The concept of "boat people" mean anything to you? How about half a million dead in the US's own civil war?

History does matter. But those dead people from before? They'll still be dead when your recommended policy of shitting pants and running away is implemented. But they'll be forgotten because of the new bloodbath your policy is guaranteed to create.

You disagree? You think the people blowing themselves up to deliver chlorine gas to the neighborhood school in Baghdad are suddenly going to become all hugs and kisses when you people force the US to leave? Please grow up.

What matters about history is learning the lessons. Why do you want a new bloodbath? The historical ones don't have your fingerprints on them?

You dont know that. Besides with nukes around we better learn to behave or we might just blow ourselves to kingdom come. Now your sort of pessimism might be fine for bible bashers who are keen to hasten the second coming or whatever but for the rest of us we rather avoid armageddon you know, just in case the bible is a made up story .......

Ah, I see the problem. You are confusing speculation with history.

History does matter on the issue of whether we should stay or go.
