New Democratic Strategy Calls For March 2008 Pullout

Though I agree witha pull-out, I think the timing is BS. All for the benefit of the 2008 elections.

Senate Democrats are backing a pullout of U.S. combat troops from Iraq by the end of March 2008 – a deadline similar to that recommended recently by the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, according to Democratic insiders.

The March 31, 2008, deadline is included in a new authorization resolution for the U.S. military campaign in Iraq, where President Bush plans to send another 21,500 U.S. troops to help quell the violence there.

Everything about the war on terror has been a political strategy for regaining power for the Democrats. You can say Bush is a liar, you can accuse him of stealing oil, starting an illegal war...but the Democrats would be equally guilty of manipulating the masses for their own personal power and gain.

    From the article...

The new resolution would restrict U.S. military efforts in Iraq to training and logistical support for the Iraqi army, counterterrorism operations and securing the Iraqi borders, especially with Iran and Syria, said the Democratic insiders, who would speak only on the condition of anonymity as the drafting proceeds.
Hmm, well we would still be giving Iraq loads of support, it sounds like. And we *DO* need them to start fighting their own civil war, but...shouldn't these kinds of decisions be in the hands of generals, and not legislators? I wonder what our commanders think of this.

At any rate, these Democrats need to understand that the war will never be won until Islamic terror is annihilated entirely. We can't just withdraw to the safety of our borders and shamefully let millions die like we did with Vietnam, because ultimately it's going to come back to bite us in the ass again in a huge way.

Especially when most of them voted for and even passionately argued for the war...I guess I can't expect Microwave America to remember that, since they can't remember what happened on CNN's or Fox's last soundbite...

As opposed to the Republicans who manipulate the masses for their own personal power and profit? Get a grip.

The same thing was said of Vietnam. It's just as much manure now as it was then.

    March 2008, huh?

That's damn convenient, ain't it? Just as the President Primary season heats up, the Democrats in the Senate can point to the returning troops and say "see? We did it!".

And if anyone thinks there's any other reason for that plan, they're damn fools.

That was my point. With Vietnam, we withdrew before having accomplished anything of lasting value, then the Democrats cut all support to South Vietnam. Millions of massacred civilians and thousands sent into re-education camps later...

But this is a different war. The Vietnamese didn't infiltrate Western countries, leave bombs in subways, and fly planes into buildings.

Oh well, that's what happens when you have no plan and don't consider what the people who live there want. All of these things you state were/are a result of our direct and indirect interventions for 25 years. We killed more Vietnamese in Vietnam than anyone else did.
But this is a different war.
    Only the time and place.

    Neither have Iraqi's.

Nixon did the same thing. One of few things he actually did that he said he would.
