Managers of the building said the lights were to honour the Chinese people...
I really don't see this as anything to get excited about.
Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. ~ Mark Twain
Look China, you are notorious for your human rights violations and your strong authoritarian government... but could we get some cash to hold us over until the next fiscal year?
Is this really a big deal?

The same color patterns were displayed on the Empire State Building this past January. Big Effing Deal.

Look, I don't think it's that much of a big deal. Colored lights are just colored lights, and I happen to love colored lights. Bright yellow is my favorite color, too. I also love the Empire State Building, one of my favorite spots in the whole US of A, no question about it. And I also like the Chinese people, the few I've actually met that is. I have tremendous respect for the Chinese culture. And I know we'd have very little "stuff" if not for the Chinese. I just find it hard to believe that the only purpose of this is simply "to honour the Chinese people", or if it is, I just don't believe it's a great idea. For one thing, there is a not completely insignificant group of Chinese people who are obviously not too happy about it, and they are quoted in the article.
The message I'd get from this would be "the Chinese revolution in 1949 was cool and the ESB is down with it. Congrats on the swell job, Mao!" And I find that rather surprising, is all.
