The Bush administration is bracing for impeachment hearings in Congress.

The Bush administration is bracing for impeachment hearings in Congress.

"A coalition in Congress is being formed to support impeachment," an administration source said.

Sources said a prelude to the impeachment process could begin with hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee in February. They said the hearings would focus on the secret electronic surveillance program and whether Mr. Bush violated the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

Administration sources said the charges are expected to include false reports to Congress as well as Mr. Bush's authorization of the National Security Agency to engage in electronic surveillance inside the United States without a court warrant. This included the monitoring of overseas telephone calls and e-mail traffic to and from people living in the United States without requisite permission from a secret court.

Sources said the probe to determine whether the president violated the law will include Republicans, but that they may not be aware they could be helping to lay the groundwork for a Democratic impeachment campaign against Mr. Bush.

They'd have more luck impeaching him on the border issue for dereliction of duty & failure to uphold his Constitutional duty as POTUS by not protecting our borders. This hearing will result in nasty back & forths, which is the intent, IMO. They don't want to impeach him because if they did they'd bring the real charges. However, most of congress would be impeached right along with him.

That's fine by me. We can have elections all over again, but the rules are: nobody that's in any political office right now or was in the past can run again.

If we do that, then well have "N00bs" (for lack of a better word) in the White House

No, we'd have the real culprit as president, the PNAC dictator Cheney....but, I think an impeahment is the perfect addition to Bush' resume...

It's not going to happen. Pelosi already said that she would not support an impeachment.

Exactly & these hearings are for nasty attacks from both sides to to each party. They all seem to thrive on turmoil.
I wonder why Pelosi is allowing the hearings if she won't allow the impeachment, hmmmm, that's why I say it's nothing more than a bar brawl.

Probably for the same reason she wants a military escort and a jumbo jet for her private use...she's a bitch.
