This might not be anything new but we WERE told that we should expect a new transparency in government. We are not getting it.

This is what that article says Sen. Max Baucus is doing in part:

As we continue to track developments involving Congressional efforts to revamp our nation's health care system, our legislative affairs team has just given me a very disturbing report. It appears the Senate Finance Committee is preparing to vote on a health care "plan" - before they even write the bill.

That’s right, the Senate Finance Committee, the fifth and final committee with jurisdiction over the government takeover of healthcare that is being debated, is in session as we speak and will soon vote to approve the bill. You can watch live coverage of the Committee debate here. There’s one major problem: the members of the Finance Committee haven’t yet written the bill, and they don’t intend to do so before they vote.

    Trust us.

I think that's the inherent message.

    Do you trust them?

    I don't.

The federal government is no place for large scale social programs.

And I don't care which party is proposing them.

They just want the power. The substance of the bill does not matter to them.

This is getting worse by the minute.

So, now that the bill is on the "fast track", we're going to see what our Senators are really made of.

Here's what they're made of so far:

Tomorrow, the Senate Finance Committee will resume its mark-up of health care reform legislation. Last week, Sen. John Rockefeller (D-WV) said that the insurance industry is “running certain people in this mark-up.” Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) made clear he was one of those individuals when he called for a provision that would allow health insurance lobbyists “at least 72 hours” to read the bill. An analysis by The Wonk Room finds that, of the 534 amendments that have been offered to the Committee’s bill, at least 47 of them directly reflect the health insurance industry’s wish list. Igor Volsky has put together this video compilation showing senators making the insurance industry’s arguments:

So the lobbyists get 72 hours, but the People had to FORCE their Prime Representative to get the same thing.

Like I said, a battle of the special interests, for the special interests.

And meanwhile, We the People, get screwed to the tune of $1900.00 each.

For something that's not any better than what we have now.

And, they're not going to lower rates (in fact, they're going to raise them).

And what do we really get out of all this? This is supposed to make us "better as a nation"? Well gee, I feel so much better (not)....

It is clear that they want just about any bill they can write passed.

They realize that if they read it then they will uncover what a bad idea it is.

All these politicans are worried about is how is it going to look if they vote against something like this rather than is it the right move for our country. We need to stop supporting those who do not want to support themselves in capitalistic and democratic society. If you choose not to make the right decisions, why is it my responsibility to make them for you?

I agree. Like the bailout, there are people in the government that creates a hysteria, and use the fear to pass anything. Those people, and I think we know who they are in this case, and we certainly knew who they were in the last case, needs to be removed.

I agree. We keep throwing money at issues and expect it to go away but it doesn't. Money is actually making the problem worse. People should be held accountable for the decisions that they make and we should not continue to pander them. There are too many special interest groups and to few politicans with a backbone.
