If all taxes were shared by the entire country then maybe we could support all the entitlements and budgets we are currently incurring. One group (rich) cannot finance the entire budget. I am sure there is a way the flat tax could be implemented so its fair for everyone.

.......Of course, this being Obama, there was a reach for grandeur. Hope and change are long gone. It’s now equality and fairness.

That certainly is a large idea. Lenin and Mao went pretty far with it. As did Clement Attlee and his social-democratic counterparts in postwar Europe. Where does Obama take it? Back to the decade-old Democratic obsession with the Bush tax cuts, the crusade for a tax hike of all of 4.6 points for 2 percent of households — 10 years of which wouldn’t cover the cost of Obama’s 2009 stimulus alone.......

Good article btw. I highly recommend reading it.

It's all about the principle of class warfare, not the silly details that expose it's irrelevancy.

Seems to me this is an entirely uncontroversial hypothesis. So long as they are dealing with members of their own group, religious people in general are quite ethical. Some are better than that.
Even when alternative views are clearly wrong, being exposed to them still expands our creative potential. In a way, the power of dissent is the power of surprise. After hearing someone shout out an errant answer, we work to understand it, which causes us to reassess our initial assumptions and try out new perspectives. “Authentic dissent can be difficult, but it’s always invigorating,” Nemeth says.

So a flat federal income tax would only make things worse for the poor.
How does the poor pay more then the wealthy in state taxes? Most poor people rent rather then own homes. Home owners pay their taxes thru home taxes. i'm sure there is some taxes in the rent they pay, but thats variable. How do you figure the poor pay more then the rich? Doesn't make sense. Your scale shows the poor paying higher excise and sales tax. That is impossible. Poor people have less money therefore spend less, therefore less sales tax. Excise tax is based on amount of income for small business. That scale looks phony as well. Less income should be less excise taxes. I have a small business and pay excise taxes. Its taxes you collect from sales and pay the state and local cities, so its not really a tax to the person. Looks like another attempt to make the poor look like they are paying to much and the rich should pay for everything. Again everyone should pay their fair share. If we are going to continue to keep up the rate of spending we are currently doing , then we need to hike everyones taxes.

I heard we would all have to give up our incomes 100% for one year to begin to pay off our debt. I check out the article , thanks

Poor people pay sales tax, which affects them more because a higher percentage of their income is spent on taxable items. Renters pay property tax through their rent (that's where landlords get the money to pay RE taxes). Again, if poor people buy more things on which excise tax is charged, it makes up a larger part of their income than for a wealthier person. You are failing to account for percentages of income--you're thinking in absolute terms.

So what. She certainly makes a fraction of what Buffet makes. That's the point.

What number would make it not acceptable for you? What range does she have to be in....and why?

And that stereotype group think has always been a mistaken assumption.

I think if you asked the people you listed above including Gates, Buffett, and Soros they would say (and have said) that they would be willing to pay more in taxes. Name a Republican that has said that. I'm sure there are a few, right? Polls have indicated that as much as 70% of American think the wealthiest should pay more. Republicans are on the wrong side again.
Republicans are by nature reluctant to make such statements, so it is natural that they will take heat for it. But the Limbaugh point (and I agree with it) is that the Romney's/Gingrich'/McCain's of the world are the ones prominently criticized for their wealth and how they got it. Amazingly, how they obtain it is no different than the prominent wealthy Democrats and their wealthy supporters/sponsors. So why is it a worthy issue for Republicans?

And why did we learn all about Joe the plumber's financial status, yet nothing about Bosanek?
