    Brainwashing

There's a simple lesson some people need to learn - if someone disagrees with you, it does not necessarily mean that they have been brainwashed by a scary and sinister political movement. Some people are quite capable of believing that intervention in the economy creates a more stable and equitable system without there being some communist overlord tapping into their minds. People can also be quite prepared to vote Republican without Fox News sticking an electrode into their brain. And these people might all be rational and intelligent too.

The reason being; politics and economics are complicated and difficult issues, about which you have not received any great revelation of ultimate truth. And nor has anyone else.

Excellent post, and I could not agree more.

The conservatives around here that I respect are the ones that don't pull that brainwashing line, or the line how you are stupid because you don't agree with them. It also cuts both ways.

I agree except in the case of people buying into the characterizations of liberals and conservatives as tree hugging hippies or gun toting rednecks.

I think that people are brainwashed by other things that are more subtle, such as believing all drug addicts are weak willed, morally decrepit and can't be trusted expecially when that assumption comes from someone who gets drunk on a regular basis.

There's a lot of other common beliefs that have been put in our head by society involving things like patriotism but I won't go into that right now cuz I got shit to do.
