    Military Double Standard

Before you read this....know the following.

    1. I am a member of the Army.
    2. I do not want women to be out of the Army.

I feel that the double standard that clearly exists in the US military between men and women is unfair on almost every level. It is unfair to men to be expected to OK with the fact that someone who has to meet a lower standard is supposed to be treated completely equally.

But more than that, it is unfair to the women of the Military to be told that they cannot meet the standards of a man. Sex should be completlely out of the question in the eyes of the DOD. Granted women cannot serve in direct combat branches, but they can be put into a combat situation just as easily.

    So take this example...

Transportation is a non-combat branch open to both men and women. On a convoy mission for delivering supplies or whatever, the convoy comes under ambush.

Now who has the better chance of survival? Someone who had to meet higher standards of physical fitness and training, or someone who has been told that they do not need to meet standards that are designed to save their life?

Men have to meet those standards for several reasons. To show they have the discipline to maintain a certain level of personal fitness, to prepare them for battle, and even for non-combat servicemen they are a Rifleman first and whatever second. So what does that make women in the military? Not a rifleman first? Again that goes back to it being unfair to both of them.

    It just makes no sense.

Again, I am not saying women shouldnt be in the military. I could not tell someone who wants to serve their country in that way that they are not allowed. But god damnt, not everyone is cut out for the military.

Life sucks sometimes and you dont get what you want, for both men and women.

The fact that our society relies on double standards and political correctness to make us feel better. Then when the time comes where you need to have met certain standards, been told what you are doing isnt good enough...we are screwed.

We have it soo good that we focus our problems on self made drama.

If women pass the physical test necessary for combat, then yes they should be put into combat.

There really is no such thing as a "double standard". Men are men, and women are women. They have never been the same and never will be. I see this same type of thing going on at my job. Women get paid the same to do the same work, but the men get called upon when the work becomes to much for a woman to handle. I am speaking in physical terms. I was once in the military, and the men always had to work harder and do more than the women, even though they were in the same job as we were. The standards will always be different. We try to pretend that they aren't, but the truth of the matter is that they are. It's just something that hasn't really been brought out into the open.

Well that is true...but then why do women complain when they are not treated equally.

It honestly drives me insane when they cry about men looking down upon them sometimes in an enviroment like the military, or like you were talking about with the workforce.

"Wah wah wah I hate men who think a woman isnt just as good." Then i remember why women act that way....the extra X chromosome blocks out this thing called logic from coming into their brain.

Well in general...most women cannot match up to a man when it comes to physical attributes.

But I feel that as long as women are allowed in the military, they should meet the same standard.

Nature and the enemy are not going to go easier on a woman because she is a woman. I think it is irresonsbile of the military to do such a thing.

    Re: Military Double Standard

no, imperialism gives people artificial perceptions of the nature of things. And as such, for your example, it has women thinking that women in general are equal to men, despite the fact that there are many many cases where they are not.

Imperialism teaches that people live by some foreign code, by some 'imperial code' of conduct; and once that imperial code of conduct is defined in a certain way, those who follow that code of conduct believe that life is that certain way, despite that it may not be.
