Thread: My rant as a moderator

Disclaimer: In no way do I speak for any other mod but myself. These are my opinions and only mine. I do not represent this site with these comments.

Ok...So..
I just need to rant for a little so here it goes.

Things one needs to know about life as a mod.

1. When reporting or pm'ing, please do not use the following phrases:

-'Since I have been reported/warned/infracted for much less, I think you should infract this person.' First, you may have never been reported. Mods can and do have the ability to read. Second, I could give a shit about it. Did it break a rule? Good, say that and only that.

-'I have been reporting these all day, why have you not warned this person yet about this?'
Unless you are the one being warned, it's none of your business. You can't tell who we have or have not warned. We aren't going to discuss it with you and we certainly are not going to notify you if we have taken action on your report. So stop asking what type of action we took. And stop assuming we didn't do anything. For all you know, we did. Again, none of your business.

-'I demand that you infract this person.'
You don't demand anything of the mods. You are not a mod. I don't respond well to demands of any sort. We'll look at it. If we feel it's an infractable offense, we'll infract it. Don't tell us what to do. If you want your demands answered, apply to be a mod. Until then, don't tell me I must obey you simply because you think I should.

-Any form of 'but he attacked me first and I was defending myself.'
And you are the idiot who responded in kind, so guess what, you shouldn't have responded. You respond, you break the rules, you get infracted (see other questions above- no, I do not want to get a Pm asking if that person was infracted as well or asking why they weren't. I'm not going to tell you so save your wrists from carpal tunnel and don't Pm me about it.) So be an adult, if it's against forum rules, report it. We will take care of it. If it's not, ignore it. There is this theory that if you ignore it, it usually dies, but if you respond, you take the thread off on a tangent and it usually escalates and, guess what, you're probably going to get infracted sooner or later. Your choice on what you do, but be forewarned.

2. A lot of posters have vendettas against other posters on this forum. Yes, I notice and, yes, I guessed a long time ago that you want this person gone. But reporting post after post from this poster won't make them go any quicker. Doing so just makes me skip to the next reported post. It's very difficult to take a person seriously when you know they are out to get someone and they bog down my time with needless reporting. In fact, it makes me pay just a little more attention to you, because, it's pretty much a sure thing you are going to get into it with that person. And, since you have already managed to annoy me by wasting my time with stupid reporting, I'm probably going to be less forgiving when you fuck up, and, like I said, it's pretty like you will fuck up.

3. I am human. Really, I know I am a goddess to some, but I still took a massive shit in the last 24 hours and when I don't wear deoderant I stink like Sparta's nutsack, which I think qualifies me as human. Humans have moods. Like everyone, depending on my mood, I let some things fly at times that, if I wasn't in a good mood, I wouldn't. So, can some things go without infractions at times? Yes. Can some things be infracted that shouldn't? Yes. But here is the good news, or bad for some of you. All reports go to the entire mod staff. It's a group decision on what is and is not infracted. A lot of times, there is only one mod on staff. That mod usually will take action immediately based on their view. But, when another mod looks at that infraction, they, if they feel it should not been infracted, can let the whole staff know this. Or they can do nothing which means it's sticking. If there is a disagreement, then the next mod will weigh in and so on and so on. Believe it or not people, if you don't get a reversal, it doesn't mean that the mod was out to get you. It means that all the mods agreed. So lay off the one that did it. It was a consensus decision. You can challenge it, but, chances are, unless not all the mods have seen it, it ain't getting changed. Vice versa. Same goes with if I choose not to infract. Another mod can at any time.

4. Regarding challenges, 'he should have gotten a warning, he attacked me first, this is not as bad as what this person said, you're a biased asshole out to get me, I'm leaving if you don't change this' or any form of these are not defenses that will get your infraction changed. Did you or did you not break forum rules? No? Tell me why YOU didn't. Yes? Shut the fuck up and stop wasting my time.

5. When you get a warning, don't respond like I just tried to ban you permanently from this site. Grow the fuck up. It's a fucking warning, a friendly reminder that we have rules. It doesn't hold any weight, it doesn't affect your status. Think of it as just a reminder. Even if you don't think it was an infractable offense, don't go apeshit over it. My assumption when someone does go ape shit is that they are planning on committing multiple offenses and are pissed that they have one less chance to break the rules before they get banned. Then I just assume you're an asshole, because, you, in my opinion, are acting like one.

6. Reminding you that I am human, yes, there are people on this site I do not like. There are also people I do like. Being a mod doesn't magically remove me of having an opinion. And I am allowed to share that opinion within the rules of the forum. There is nothing wrong with that. If you don't like that, tough. Get over it.

7. Will I infract you just because I don't like you? I try not to, but sometimes, like I said, depending on my mood, if I do, the rest of the staff has the ability to overturn that infraction. So, no, you are not getting hit because of my opinion of you. That would be impossible. I'm not out to get you, so, maybe you should look at why you got the infraction and shape up.

8. Will I not infract you if I do like you? No, if you break a rule, yes you will be infracted. Don't try to guilt trip me and get out of it. Suck it up and be an adult. It doesn't mean that I don't like you and I certainly don't respond well to the 'I thought we were friends and now I think you are satan' responses I'm sure all mods have gotten.

9. Are the moderators unfair? No. Even if one mod wants you gone really really bad, they can't do anything unless all mods agree upon it. I don't know how many times I have to repeat this. If 5 people of differing opinion and political background can all agree that you fucked up, it pretty much means you fucked up.

10. Some of you shouldn't spend so much time with your families. I cannot believe the amount of reported posts in the last 24 hours. You guys gotta get out more. Lay off each other. You're annoying me.

11. The staff reserves the right to temp ban anyone they feel as a group is a pest or a distraction to a good environment. So, try not to annoy all of us, ok?

12. Stop pm'ing on behalf of defending other posters. You annoy me. Let them deal with it. We are all grown ups.

13. If you can get the same point across without commenting about the person you are quoting, then don't comment on that person. Type it, let it rip, make yourself feel better, then delete it and hit post. 90% of infractions stem from this. If you are arguing about Iraq and you say 'the troops need to go now, Bush lied, and you're a lying dumbfuck redneck' could you not have effectively made the same point with 'the troops need to go now, bush lied' and avoided confrontation and an infraction?

14. If you ain't a mod, you don't know the whole story. Stop acting like you do. You sound like an idiot. I don't like idiots, therefore, I don't like you. You don't know shit unless you somehow got access to where the mods are. If you did, oops. If you didn't, shut the fuck up you dumbfuck you don't know jack.

15. I can't lock posts, remove things from threads I'm not assigned to, or a lot of other things people like to get on my case for. I am not Sparta. Stop demanding things I have no ability to do. It makes you look like an asshole and you piss me off.

16. I have a life. I also do not have a little beeper that notifies me that your righteous ass is requiring me for something. So, go for a walk, take a dump, close the computer, take a pill, do something that holds you over until I can get to it. Don't bug me about it. Until you send me a paycheck, your emergency means nothing to me. And don't you dare demand I get back to immediately with action.

17. For those of you being assholes, now you know. Stop it.

Great rant. Having been a mod on several forums, I totally agree with you.

But a question please. How do you know what Sparta's nutsack smells like? Photos would be welcome and enhance your reply.

That's not fair and it's indicative of a pro-female bias on this site. Everything everyone does here (including me) is an indication that the mods are really out to get men and that you are really espousing an ultra-feminist, godless, radical left-right-left agenda. I demand that you secede from the union, declare ME emperor for life, bear my first-born child, reinstate knucks, and submit to the will of Ahura-Mazda.
