Thread: Fuck you Arlington County

I am a legal resident of North Carolina. I pay taxes, my license, my tags, and my voter registration is all North Carolina. I rent a condo in Arlington, VA. Because I have a fucking parking spot in Virginia, I have to pay their Personal Property Tax. But, because I have a North Carolina tag, I also pay NC PPT. NC is reasonable. I pay about $90 a year. But, in addition to my $170 a month parking spot, my 2003 Nissan Altima equals at $595/year PPT for Arlington County. How the hell is this legal?!

And to make matters worse, they have lost my check AGAIN! This is the third check they have managed to lose. They even lost one I sent through registered mail where a signature was required. So now I have to pay a 15% late fee. And I live 2 blocks from the damn facility where the check is being sent. What the hell is wrong with these people!???!!!! And thank god I don't own a really nice car. My friend who drives a BMW had a $3000/year PPT. $3000 in addition to all the other bullshit taxes. And where is all this additional revenue going anyway? Way to make someone want to spend money on a nice car. This stupid tax is one reason why I'm refraining from getting a new car. The PPT is equivalent to 2 months of car payments!

I thought property taxes were only paid by owners, not renters. (Yeah....I know...landlords build the property taxes into the rent, but the actual property tax bill is being paid by the landlord, not the renter).

I've been an owner and a renter over the years in different states, and the only time I've paid/been assessed property taxes is when I owned.

Hmmmm.....and I thought my state was fucked up when it came to taxes.

It's basically a car tax. I had to pay it last year when I lived in an actual apartment complex. You park, you pay. And they have no problem finding you or pulling your driver's license when you don't pay. They just have a problem cashing the damn checks. Considering the majority of the people here drive extremely nice cars, they are making bank on this little tax.

Well, that's just as fucked-up.

Goddamn government. They won't stop until they get their grubby little paws on every cent we make! Maybe if they put their creativity at coming up with bullshit taxes towards better use, they might be able to actually do something GOOD.

And they want to give more welfare and free handouts to lazy bastards who refuse to work. Nice.

We lived in Va for about a year, it's beautiuful but that about aall I can say about it.
