    E-Coli rant

I'm I the only one who's getting tired of all these E-Coli scares? It seems that everything we eat is now a threat because of E-Coli.

That's a bacteria commonly found in shit and, yes, animals shit when they're killed. It gets on the meat and inside the meat when it's ground, such as in hamburger or processed meats like pepperoni.

But, it's fairly simple to get rid of. With pieces of whole meat, such as roasts, chops and steaks, a quick pass under the faucet and sufficient heat applied to the surface and it's dead. With ground meats, all it takes to kill it is to cook it thoroughly. That's all! Nothing else is required!

Frankly, I'm having a hard time working up any sympathy for morons who insist on eating their hamburgers rare. If they get sick and die, it's not my fault, but I'm the one who'll have to live with more government control and higher taxes to pay for their stupidity.

Right now, there's recalls on frozen pizzas and frozen beef patties from Sam's? Why? Cook it according to the instructions and there's no problem! Will the government have to take these idiot's hands and show them where it says, "Cook at 400 degrees for 18 minutes" on the pizza box and tell them what it means? Duh!

Sorry, I'm on a rant today.

The government safety programs lost my support when I was working for local six (heat and frost) as an apprentice in 1987. A friend of mine would carry his lunchpail to work and we'd sit on the jobsite (construction site-hard hats required) bullshitting and eating lunch by the gang box. One day we noticed a sticker on the side of his lunchpail that said something like "Caution, thermos brand lunch containers are not an acceptable substitute for a hard hat." It was at that moment that I realized that the government safety programs was actually breeding stupidity IN to the human race.

    Here's another example of that:

J.B. Hunt truck lines is famous for hiring inexperienced drivers and putting them through some little schooling before turning them lose on an unsuspecting public. For awhile, they actually had stickers on both doors to the truck with 6-step instructions on how to get in and out of the truck without hurting yourself.

I can, it's called supply and demand. Foreign foodstuffs are cheaper.

    no apologies necessary.
yes, people are stupid and can't figure out simple things lost from the agriculture age. part of modernization from agrarian society.

there was probably a similar struggle when people moved from hunter gathers to agriculture too. like when they killed all those buffalo.

In the sense that there seems to always be some kind of outbreak, I don't think it's cheaper in the long run.

Sure it is. It's only the poor and the middle class who die from these diseases. The rich don't need to buy the less expensive imported foods.
