    New Thread, Same Subject

A number of members have complained about multiple threads covering the same subject. One of the monotinous mod duties is to merge threads that cover the same subject. I've been a bit lazy, and until now I didn't know how to do it. In a quest to ever improve upon my nearly unrivaled power, I have unlocked the secret of the merge. I will attempt to clean up the board a bit, but I will miss some things, so if you see a repetative thread please feel free to let me know. Thanks. And eat butt.

How will you determine what threads constitute the "same subject"?

For example is a thread reviewing lies told by the administration in the lead up to the war the same subject as thread that deals with a poll on Iraqi sentiment about the occupation? How about a discussion of the legality of the war and a discussion of why we have not found the WMD that the administration claimed was there?

Are all of those simply posts on "the war" and get lumped into one generic thread on "the war"? If so I think it is a very bad idea. To me those are very different topics. Lumping them would stifle discussion of the specifical of each.

Seems to me, that some topics are far to complex and have too many diverse angles and elements to simply declare all threads that deal with the Iraq war in any way will be lumped into one.

It's important to note that many threads based on the same subject intend to start from a different view point. The author of the thread intends to start by covering ground not dealt with as a premis for similar threads. For this reason, I will try to leave threads seperate until the become the same conversation, which they always do.

These threads nearly always condense in to the same conversation, it is that point that I would move to merge them. I don't want to eliminate different topics,

Just looked at the merge on 9/11 threads. You (or someone) combined a thread I had that was a positive memorial thread with Invayne's totally negative and angry thread attacking Ward Churchill.

Those two topics are by far not the same. Nor had they become redundant.

They were not even combined in a logical way. Simply sorted the posted by time posted. Totally fucked up the heartfelt memorial thread with a bitter partisan rant thread.

IMO, this is not going to be a good thing at all.

It is sad to see you embrace the stifling of discussion and topic censorship that was being advocated by Freckles and Invayne. That is all that will happen by combining threads like this. Bad Idea.

I see that. No wonder people are getting confused as to why certain posts look like they're responses to the post above them.

Yep. You've already been counfounded by the new combined 9/11 thread. That kind of thing will happen everytime that they do this.

Yep, and when people don't quote the post they're referring to, all this combining of different threads throws the responses out of whack. Who's answering what??

So who was Ausinus replying to?

    here's a really unimportant question...

How do you decide which thread title to pick?
