Which would be a more appropriate

Film to show a four-year old child:

"Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone"

    Or:

    "Finding Nemo"

    ?

Tomorrow, we're looking after Matilda, who's four years-old....I've figured out what we're doing in the afternoon, so that's sorted.

Matilda's parents, have to drive to Lochaber, then back here to Glasgow, and on my calculations, they won't have returned here until at least Midnight....by which time I expect Matilda will be in The Land of Nod.

So, she's probably going to have to stay the night at our house.

We'll, I reckon put a film on for her in the evening...."Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone" or "Finding Nemo"

Matilda is VERY cool already, and not very babyish....so can she handle the Harry Potter film, it was the first film, so all the characters, the child actors are still quite wee in it....or does anyone think it'd STILL be too scary in part for a four-year old?

I think maybe "Finding Nemo" is just TOO childish for Matilda.

We've got about 250 DVD's, but next to none for a child....got all the Harry Potter films and I can get "Finding Nemo" easily tomorrow from somewhere or other.

I'm not that well up on wee childrens films, except "Swallows and Amazons" and the original version of "The Railway Children" which is FAB.

So, should we just show Matilda "Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone"?

"Finding Nemo" for a four-year-old. And I thought it was entertaining myself.

    BTW..."Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" Heh-heh...

I love me some Snape. He reminds me of John Cale.

It was good. And a 4-year-old would enjoy it on totally different level. Harry would scare a little kid...or bore her.

No matter how 'cool' or 'mature' a four year old is...Harry Potter is still much too mature. 'Finding Nemo' is much more appropriate.

It's Philosopher's Stone in every country but the US.
    Nemo or Dora the Explorer.
Don't do to children what my parents did to me. They let me watch Jaws, Porky's, and Pink Floyd's The Wall as my first movies. That and Bambi. Bambi caused the most harm but I still have nightmares about all of them.

Thanks for pointing that out Freckles - it's one of my fave books and I thought - what!!! Never heard of 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone'. Why did they change the title for American kids - do they think they are all so dumb they won't know what a philosopher is?

    I don't know...

Kids don't talk about Philosophers over here, but they're into sorcery and fantasy games, so maybe that's why they changed it?

I forgot what the reason was...

Hit the nail on the head - it was a marketing strategy

I got to watch Ultraman, Anything Count Dracula, Anything Werewolf, Bruce Lee movies and my hippy teenage brother got a kick out of playing the Boogeyman in my closet from my ages 3 to 7.

On the flip side, it takes a lot to scare me. I see a movie like SAW or The Ring, and I am calm as can be while everyone around me is cringing.
