How to handle trolls and other refuse

As some of you know, we have a cyberpest. We call him freeman. We also may call him psychotic and obsessive-compulsive because he has a fixation with PH. There is a suggestion to set up a waiting area, to create a delay between registration of new members and their ability to post in the main forum. Best guess is that it would work like R and R in so far as the ability to post in the main forum. That way we can leave problematic posters in the kiddie pool while the grown-ups talk. Political affiliation will not be a factor but conduct and adherence to the PH rules would be. Are you in favor of it, yes or no? If yes suggestions on how to "graduate" new posters would be appreciated. If no, then let me know your concerns.

    Thanks JL

Nah, from what I've seen you seem to catch him in a few posts and the rest of us get to laugh at his punk ass in the meantime. I kind of like being hated by obsessed freaks anyway. Makes me feel sane by comparison.

Yeah, that sound good. Not sure about graduation though. Maybe just a week or more probationary period?

    Okay. That's also fair.

at least a few hours waiting time. That will limit people like freeman to only getting a few post in a day

    I vote yes.

And not just because I am one of the people he is obsessed with.

He uses up far too much of the mods and admins time in getting him banned. And newcomers will see a freak like him and be turned off from joining PH.

I've been on other forums where you couldn't post right away. It can be an effective filtering system.

Also, his behaviour has risen to the level of harassment and stalking. There may be other actions that can be taken. I'm in the midst of some medical shit, but I'll see if I can talk to some people.

But...yeah...it's time for a troll cage.

Require a mandatory introduction from each new member to be allowed to post. You can gain a lot from how they post if it's a future troll. Plus it gives the mods time to check the IP address before they approve the person. Kind of like how a yahoo group works. They have to give a description of why they want to join and then they wait until they hear back from the mods and are then given posting priviledges. Or allow them only to see and post in the member introduction area until they have been approved. That's what we did on a site I used to be a mod of.
