    Two-sided brutality

As requested by bonncaruso, I am reposting this here.

Let me tell you a story about "posing with weapons", etc.

These young men lived in Primorsky krai, Russia. Nobody knew them very well, the neighbors in their village, Kirovskiy, thought they were all good boys. And then, the gang declared war on the local authorities. Assassinated about half a dozen police officers; wounded maybe two or three dozen more in repeated random ambush attacks.

After their last attack at night on a remote outpost, in which was killed 34-year old Sergeant Aleksei Karas

(with daughter Diana), local police and military forces were given a "free hunt" clearance. Buses and cars were pulled over on the roads and searched

Finally, they were discovered and blocked off in Ussuriysk

2 were killed, 4 arrested, 3 of those later committed suicide in police custody.

Point: anyone posing with guns in this manner, and posting violent threats and such on the Internet needs to be taken seriously. Sergeant Karas' little daughter is now growing up without a father, because the right authorities did not react in time...

The interesting, and disturbing, part is... one can feel equally sad for some of the boys too. From what I understand, Andrei Sukhorad, 22, his brother was beaten to death by drunken policemen in a holding cell. Roman Savchenko, 18, another member of the group, his father was killed by police. Aleksandr Kovtun, 22, was supposedly tortured and beaten while in police custody at the age of 15 or 16. They all had reasons to hate police...

    Incidents like this

A 15-year-old boy caught stealing a woman's purse died early Sunday after being viciously beaten by a St. Petersburg police officer, Interfax reported.

The teenager was seen by police robbing a 45-year-old woman in the Nevsky Region of St. Petersburg early Sunday morning, Itar-Tass reported. The police pursued the suspect and "applied physical force" to prevent him from fleeing.

Subsequently police took the boy to the regional police station for questioning and, upon arrival, beat him with their fists and a mop handle. An ambulance was called to treat injuries sustained by the boy, who died en route to the hospital.

Officer Denis Ivanov of the Nevsky Region police was arrested Monday in connection with the crime, according to a statement on the Investigative Committee web site. Ivanov could not explain his motives for attacking the boy, the statement said.

The head of the Nevsky Region police was sacked Monday by St. Petersburg police chief Mikhail Sukhodolsky, Interfax reported.

"There is no control in that department," Sukhodolsky said at a police meeting, Interfax reported.
