    Scholistics are missing

What about scholastic academics in public schools? Are we going to see a double level of accomplishment in our next generation? This does not stop with Catholic schools as they can memorize scriptures but not find their own state on a map. They can recite the 10 commandments but have no clue about the Bill of Rights.

Sadly our children (in my case grandkids) have lost their ability to concentrate for more than a minute and keeping a focus on anything requires graphics and loud music for stimulation. We are into a third generation of this problem and everyone knows the problem but will not turn off the television or go off line long enough to work with our offspring.

I feel sorry for the children of America as they have no inspiration as they know nothing of the history of the nation or their family. They consider themselves cattle moved from house to house, classroom to classroom and can hardly communicate when they are out of school.

I think we can all agree on the problems.

    Solutions?

I teach students from 5 to 65 (in Japan) and I don't know. I do what I can with the teens and under, but it's a losing battle. I fight just to keep them from getting dumber during the class.

The adults are dream students. They work, they know what's important and they know how much is at stake.

The businessmen are like sponges... man they need English and they need it yesterday. It's all about motivation I guess. But I don't know how to get that out of a 15 year old... and it's my JOB to know.

Before you spread your lies, take this into consideration.

Most of you 'adults' here are immature beyond reason. It gets to the point sometimes where I wish I could physically move through my screen to others.

You guys fucked up the education systems for us, you wanna know what we do in class now? Sit there the entire period listening to some shit about the Big Bang that some (most) of us don't even believe, yet treat it as fact.

Muslims can't wear turbans, Christians can't wear crosses. It's bullshit.

No longer is school about creativity, reason, and logic. No, now it's about being one of the crowd.

Believe in God? Too bad bitch! Swallow your tongue and follow the crowd. If you speak up, you're suspended.

In English class I wrote a paper about God actually fitting into science somewhat, and got a zero because I treated 'mythology as fact'.

So much for seperation of Church and State...

I just hope MY generation can fix all the shit that YOUR generation screwed up.

Feslin, please do not call members personally insulting names, such as "bitch". You can make your points without attacking people personally.

    Re: Scholistics are missing

I'm not a good example of education because I attended Private Schools (Secular) all the way through. When I went looking for schools in 1964 for my own kids, I was horrified at our public schools in the San Fernando Valley that had no reading lists, did not teach phonics, sentence diagamming but a lot of social studies that taught kids to get along. So I made the decision to send the kids to private schools where academics were stressed; book lists were available and books reports were required even in the summer months. We had no television until these kids were off to college and my kids learned about creation and evolution so they could make their own decisions on what they believed to be the truth. Of course they chose evolution because creation is nothing but a myth well laid out to scare the hell out of the Christians. My children are well read, trilingual and University trained in medicine and law. My son was not a student but he owns his own Hollywood studio specializing in special effects.

If you feel you have no debate with me, try for something other than calling me a bitch. Your education must be missing a lot of subjects that you somehow cannot use during any debate. If you were my son or grandson, I would take a look at your own library and add to it some of the books that might open your mind to academics. You deal in myth and superstition and that is fine but don't expect the rest of us to understand what you are talking about. Have you read any of the classics or Aristotle? Ayn Rand? or do you pick up your knowledge from watching television.

My generation did not ruin your education. Your own parents turned you over to government schools and their plan of dumbing you down apparently was successful.

Everybody hold the phone. Feslin was - I thought clearly - not speaking to anyone on this board and did NOT call anyone a name.

He said the education system has told HIM that if he believes in God he can shut HIS (as in Feslin's) mouth. The comment about getting suspended makes that pretty clear that the comment was TO him, not from him.

Misunderstanding. Read it again. It's Fes who believes in God and hos point was he's not allowed to in school.

No harm no foul - play on!

you CAN move through to others, just not physically. seriously.

damn straight. nyc has taken just about every creative (music, arts etc) out of the classroom.

In English class I wrote a paper about God actually fitting into science somewhat, and got a zero because I treated 'mythology as fact'.
albeit in a different way, i did the same thing in highschool and got suspended and an automatic failure for the class. no science based though.

overall, you have some good insight, but you allow your emotions to get the best of you. I guess it's natural cause you are still young (no insult, just my observation), but i feel you could have great insight if you just learn to control the anger (for lack of a better word).

    keep on postin

    Re: Scholistics are missing

Well, Feslin, you've got some points, and you got a long way to go. You need to learn that when your opinion is opposed to facts, you're wrong.

Modern cosmology is a science melding state of the art observational astonomy and state of the art quantum physics and state of the art relativity. While there are many areas of controversy in the field, no serious cosmologist denies that the universe was indeed once the size of a proton, and even smaller. The theoretical basis for the expanding was first developed by George Gamow, and confirming evidence was later discovered by Penzias and Wislon of Bell Labs. The science of cosmology was in it's infancy, and the concept of the universe orginating at a point and expanding outward was given the scornful cognomen "Big Bang" by Fred Hoyle, who, along with Gold and Bondi drafted up a "steady state" model of the universe. That model was shredded by the discovery of the cosmic microwave backgound.

The details are neither here nor there, I'm not telling you that to derail this thread, there's either other threads where this is appropriate, or a new thread should be started. I'm merely informing you of the facts of the matter. A wise man alters his opinions to conform to facts. You're too young to have a rigid viewpoint, trust me.

That English paper...care to post it? Depending on how it's written, the English teacher could indeed be full of crap. Dr. Knuckles teaches English...

And you're not all wrong on what you say, either. They do waste a lot of school time on pure crap. I didn't learn anything in school until I kicked myself in the ass and did it myself.
