Thread: Do you think Parenting classes should be required in school?

Actually, all American schools used to have such classes, called "Home Economics". They have been dropped in favor of "Social Studies". I think a better class to prepare kids for life would be "Ethics, Character and Morallity". These three things will take people further in life than Math, English and Science skills alone could even touch.

O ya everyone needs to learn it because if you're stuck with a kid you should know how to deal with it. Im afraid that when my time comes i will have no clue so parenting classes are a must.

We have somehow managed to parent throughout the world for many thousands of years, and parenting classes have not been an option through most of that time. HOwever, if such classes are to be taught - I would be very concerned about what is being taught as "good parenting".

Issues like "time-out" and corporal punnishment and such could be a grave mistake to try to put into a curriculum.

Punishment is a big point to try to get over. Some times parenting techniques are just the fads of the day.
