U.S. School District to Begin Microchipping Students

(NaturalNews) A Rhode Island school district has announced a pilot program to monitor student movements by means of radio frequency identification (RFID) chips implanted in their schoolbags.

    Unbelievable.................

Put one of these in my grandkids bags and there will be hell to pay, I shit you not.

I agree that this going a bit too far. I'd be interested in what the parent's reaction was to this process.

If you read the article, it's clear that the chips are only useful for monitoring students location with relation to getting on or off school buses. They would not be useful for tracking a student who leaves school grounds during lunch. It wouldn't even be capable of tracking the location of a student within the school grounds.

All it does is indicate when a student enters and exits a given bus. Ok, it yields the location of the bus, but only because the bus has a GPS transponder.

It says it can be used for that, not that it's the intended pourpose. I like this part of the article...

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has criticized the plan as an invasion of children's privacy and a potential risk to their safety.
Imagine anyone logging on to a web site to monitor the location of your child.

Because the pilot program is being provided to the school district at no cost, it did not require approval from the Rhode Island ethics commission.
Anyone know who is providing this?

I do not know, but this is one hell of an end run around the ethics commission.

Please quote the relevant lines from the article. I'm not seeing it.

If I was expecting my child's bus to arrive at 3:25 and it was 3:35, I might want to know a) where's the bus, and b) is my child on it? If the web site showed that the bus was still at the school and my child was not on-board, I might be inclined to make a phone call. If it showed that the bus and my child were three blocks away, I'd know it was nothing more than a routine delay.

Furthermore, many day care centers these days have password-protected video feeds that allow parents to check in on their kids during the day.

They're school-age students. They aren't entitled to "freedom" while in school. That's why "truancy" is a crime. And again; the only information one can gather from the chips is whether or not they boarded (or departed) a particular bus, and at what time.

Would you feel better if the chips were replaced with ID cards that students would swipe as they boarded? It's really no different, except that the cards would slow down the boarding process.

CHIP THE BUS, look they will sell you on the idea that this is to let you know who is on a bus, they had better know that already. I told you on another thread that they will start forcing chips this year, welcome to reality. These are to track, and train. It is that simple.
