When I was younger than 15, I took care of people's house (while they were on vacation), mowed lawns, took care of people's pets, had a one-man gardening/landscaping company (got paid in cash), and worked under the table at Longs Drug Store (where my older sister worked.)
If you really look for "non-corporation" jobs, you might be able to find them. I don't know how things are today for the things I listed because I did those back in the 60's and 70's when nobody had weekly paid gardeners and neighbors were more friendly.
I forgot what it was called, but when I was 15 (I believe), I could work at a fast-food restaurant with a signed form from my school (career class) that was like a work for school credit program? Anybody remember something like that?

Dude, your only 14. I'm 16, and my mum won't let me work during the school hols. She says holiday time is important, and my uncle takes me overseas for the hols. She and him both say childhood (like I'm a child - yeah! ) is too short for kids to be working, and there's more important things to learn than making money.

And if you read history, you will see that little kids, like six or eight, worked down coal mines and were sent up chimneys in the early 1800's, in my country. Like they had to pass laws to stop that. Do you want to go back to those times?

Most states allow you to work at 14. When I was 14, we had to get working papers from school and have them signed by our Pediatrician. We could only work for certain hours during the school year. You can deliver papers, walk dogs, babysit (if you like kids). Ask your school guidance counselor, they'll be able to help you.

    Re: Children Should Work

Well, children CAN work but they just can't be paid by any legal means and if you think about it, this makes sense, children would be exploited by the mere payment of taxes on those earnings. If children were "officially" paid workers, they would have to pay taxes and that would be unfair considering they have no right to vote, serve on a jury, be awarded social security credits for that work, etc. I'm sure many children would be fine with this(or perhaps would eventually ask that those other rules be changed) but the government doesn't want to deal with it. So children who want to work will have to continue to seek work where they are paid under the table which is what many children do.

I would much rather the child work on their own time, school is sooooo much more important.

I think he U.S. should lower the working age to 5 years old...considering we outsource to 3rd world countries and are having 5 year olds producing for us anyways...
