Hmmm... Could there be a reason this guy is working for Fix Noise and not somewhere meaningful as an economic advisor??

While there are something in there I can somewhat agree with.. Do you really think you are going to get republicans to cut 10% of the defense budget?? They slammed Clinton for his military cuts..

As far as the tax thing goes?? Well.. We need to raise them for the time being until we can pay off our debt.. We can lower them again once the debt is paid off.. All this talk about more tax cuts or not raising taxes is stupid.. We need to pay off the debt.. We made the debt, we need to pay it off..

As for the rest of the stuff.. It is all acedemic..

A 10% cut on military budget would be irresponsible at this time imo. Instead I'd go with a 1 or 2% cut each year for the next several years.

Where the money goes...start slashing 10% from each? You aren't going to save much of anything if you start from the bottom.

How about if Congress cuts out "Corporate Welfare" first!

GE Capital Lost Money, Exxon's Tax Dollars Went Overseas
As you work on your taxes this month, here's something to raise your hackles: Some of the world's biggest, most profitable corporations enjoy a far lower tax rate than you do--that is, if they pay taxes at all.
A view of the Exxon Mobil refinery in Baytown, Texas September 15, 2008. None of ExxonMobil's income taxes were paid to the U.S. last year.

The most egregious example is General Electric. Last year the conglomerate generated $10.3 billion in pretax income, but ended up owing nothing to Uncle Sam. In fact, it recorded a tax benefit of $1.1 billion.
Avoiding taxes is nothing new for General Electric. In 2008 its effective tax rate was 5.3%; in 2007 it was 15%. The marginal U.S. corporate rate is 35%.

    (1) The Republicans are as much at fault as the Democrats. They both need to do their part.

    (2) LOL!! When was the last time you saw politicians REMOVE a tax they enacted or raised? More taxes just gives them an excuse to spend more. That's not the solution.

I'm all for cutting corporate welfare...it's just another form of spending. But don't stop there just because that's something you happen to not like. We need to go the distance.

I like your idea. I think it would be good. I hate any military but I would never cut veterans benefits.

Fold the VA healthcare into the Medicare system. The doubling of effort for having a seperate system for retired military and civilians seems like a waste to me. hell, doing so would probably even improve the level of care for retired vets.
