    The Post Office

Stamps are going up to .46 cents. Saturday Service is being discontinued. And with all that, the Post Office is going to be somewhere in the ballpark of a 7 billion dollar hole. Unless we edit the Constitution, we're required to have one.

    So what do we do?

You could use UPS, except keep in mind they charge a lot more (their rates just increased again) and they don't deliver on Saturdays either.

    2010 Rate Change Information

UPS continues to deliver you added value and improvements in service while aggressively cutting our costs to the extent it does not impact service. After careful evaluation of customers’ needs and the rising costs that affect all businesses, UPS has set rates effective January 4, 2010.

We realize that you are seeking ways to reduce costs and be more efficient. We can do far more than just deliver packages. We have proven experience in implementing logistics solutions and technology that add real value to your business.

We either pay for the Postal Service or witness a UPS/FedEx takeover of the American mail system. Proponents of "privatization" support a policy that would hardly permit various private owners to run the mail... the parcel delivery megacorps have their own bureaucracy and efficiency problems, only they're outside of government control. If given what would constitute a monopoly over the postal service they would gouge and exploit people to the absolute limit and perhaps beyond, making what the postal service charges now look like chump change. If USPS is ever disbanded then strict regulatory controls must be placed on the parcel services so that beneficial competition is maintained, and no "partnerships" (monopolies) can be formed. It's still a lot easier to maintain the status quo and reform USPS so it can assume more of its own debt.

As someone else said, a mandate for federal mail is also written into the Constitution, meaning we'd need an Amendment to bring about end of the USPS. Not worth it.

I can'r remember mailing more then 5 or 6 times a yr for the last 10 yrs. With email, internet and such i rarely use them. I do use Netflicks but they could make all their DVD's availible via watch Instantly option they now have. Evey week I get more junk ads then i do usefull mail. As we can now scan documents and email I see Snail mail going obsolete..

An amendment? No! That would be saying that the founding fathers were wrong! Just as the founding fathers were aware of the eventual mass production of flame throwers, nuclear bombs, and automatic handguns and how those should all be allowed under the right to bear arms, they also saw the future development of the internet and fax machines and wanted us to continue to be served by a government paper postal service. Thank God for those infallible great Americans and the fact that we should never interpret what they meant or take into account the times in which they lived.

The post office is dying out just like the people who use it are. Eventually, everyone will be online and it will cease to exist for anything other than governmental mailings. IMO

If that happens, then that too must be what the founding fathers wanted.

Boontito has a valid point though. Unlike todays leaderless leaders our Fore Fathers had the foresight to know what was good for America, not just at that time but forever. If we would just return to their guidance and never question the Constitution, a near flawless document, America wouldn't be in the mess she is today. Some want to always change or alter..WHY!!!!!!! MY GOD IN HEAVEN, WHY!!!!!!! How can you make better that which is Near Perfect???!!!! YOU CAN"T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God almighty himself BLESSED AMERICA above all else, save Israel....Deny it all you want you Anti-American, Democracy Hating Fag arse Liberals but that is FACT!!!!!!!! Irrefutable, Unadulterated FACT!!!!! Can you wrap your Liberal College Educated Pea Brain minds around that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man was meant to have DOMINION over ALL THE EARTH!!!!!!! Who really gives 2 spits about a animal going exstint when WE NEED OIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the wars........People want to come here and critisize the wars.....NEWSFLASH!!!!!THIS JUST IN...WARS HAVE HAPPENED LONG BEFORE AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Life sucks, for some more then others, but as long as we are the ones winning and our way of life is better, GO AMERICA GO!!!!!!!!!!!
All this talk about AMENDMENTS!!!!! really chaps my hide!!!!!!!! The problem with the Mail is the LAZY, GREEDY, TAX DOLLAR SUCKING WORKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They should be paid 9 dollars a hr MAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most sould be paid by the piece not per hr. This would motivate them to work. As it is now they and their UNION have us over a barrel!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry guys...Just couldn't resist sounding like a Republican, the sad thing is most repubs will think I was 100% right on until they read this last sentence....
