Anyone seeing signs of improvement in the economy in their area?

I see the third house in a row on my short secton of highway has either been vacated or is for sale. Considering it's not a seller's market it can't be good for the homeowners that are selling.

Business is dismal for me. I may have to go out and work for someone else vs. being self employed for 25 years. Trouble is what's out there? I heard even the local McDonalds has plenty of applicants.

And the stock market reached a new high the other day? Huh?

The housing market is hot here, particularly in desirable cities in Canada. The Bank of Canada is set to raise interest rates soon. Canada has been creating jobs for a while. It's going to take a while before it's really felt all over by everyone, I have friends who are recent grads who are without work, but the economy is picking up in Canada.

Sorry to hear about your poor work situation. Hope things pick up soon!

In all history there is no war which was not hatched by the governments, the governments alone, independent of the interests of the people, to whom war is always pernicious even when successful.

The greater the state, the more wrong and cruel its patriotism, and the greater is the sum of suffering upon which its power is founded.

Our economy is so different here. From friends in the US they seem to think it has improved some but far less than what is needed.

It was, and Peter is just as critical about Bush as Obama. It's the same policy, why wouldn't he be? I think they are talking about Obama now because he has a chance to do the right thing and let the recession run it's course, but he's making the same mistakes as Bush, on bigger scales even.

By the way all this Bush bashing is making me consider making a thread about Bush. Now I hate Bush, probably more than liberals because I have logical reasons to hate him, not just because he's on the "other team".

I'm not a democrat. Never have been. The only democrat I ever voted for was Obama because I did not like McCain. I don't live there any longer so it doesn't matter who I would vote for in the future. I always voted the Socialists. I never backed a winner in my life. Oh well. So Bush is not on the opposing team. They all are.

Re: Anyone seeing signs of improvement in the economy in their area?

I happen to live in an area where the housing market is booming. Maybe because houses weren't being sold way over what they are worth, like in California. And, there are several major road constructions underway, which is a pain as it causes delays, etc., but, it is good to see because it means that people are working. We just heard on the news that a major department store is moving their operations center to the "major city" close to me, providing about 1,000 jobs to the area. I don't know of anyone that is unemployed and hurt by it. I did know one man that got laid off, but he has found another job.

And, they keep building house all around us. We used to be out in the country, but now, we are being surrounded by gated communities, the traffic is getting worse each day.

The point was not to say what team you're on, but to point out that even recognizing teams is kind of silly. We're all on the same team, of course.

I'm starting to see homes being constructed again in the area. There for a while it just seemed to stop completely. Homes seem to be selling too.
