    Economic Ideology

Basically, just wondering where you fit on the economic spectrum; from far-left to moderate to far-right. From my various 'bait' threads at PF, I've yet to come across a strongly right-wing thinker who was able to properly defend his beliefs (I think the last 'Austrian' I faced turned out to be a dirty monetarist!).

Though, this forum does show significantly more promise; what I expect is a lot of right/left-leaning moderates; which I personally have the biggest problem with, but that's just ideology; in practice they're probably the most socially accepted.

So where do you fit in, and if you can/want, in your reply explain your views in a short statement and give extra schools or ideas you support.

    Thanks!?

Thought there was a thread just like this, couldn't find it though.

Could you explain what you mean by Right-Leaning Germany-ish? What are some of the German economic policies that strike you as right-leaning?

I'm unsure of what to choose. Argh!

I guess "not communist" means "right wing". If that's how the scale is balanced, I guess I'm far right.

But I don't consider myself ideological. Nor do I consider economics a field that lends itself to ideology. It is a science like any other science. There are various moral judgments that can be made about the distribution of resources, but that's not economics.

I must admit, I get confused with the political spectrum, especially when it's interpreted differently in different regions. Consequently, I don't really know where the heck I am.

Anyone know of a decent site that helps you figure out where you are on this spectrum? It might be a better idea to post those results as a start?

Well the current ruling coalition is a right-leaning one in general, promoting fiscal conservatism and neoliberalism; they used to be a little more leftist until more recently. Though, they're part of the Eu and it's 'devilish' "European socialism" so it's not quite like the US or something.

Sorry, tried to make it a little easier for comparison... guess I made it harder lol.

There are a few political tests but they usually twist in politics.

Yeah, I knew that the Christian Democrats had formed a new coalition without the Social Democrats, so you're right in that they are now probably a bit more right-leaning than they used to be.

I'm kind of hesitant to vote because the examples seem misaligned. My idea of a good economy would probably be considered moderately conservative: low taxes, primarily privatized industry and little government spending outside of defense. The United States is much further to the left of this, though.

The US has huge social programs, welfare, a regulated economy with government subsidies and taxes, and so on; it's far from the ideological capitalism or free-market; then again no such example exists for a reason.

I voted "Left-leaning France style," as I think that's the closest to me, but I don't know. I'm not always keen on France's way of doing things. I would call myself moderate left economically, but I would qualify that by saying that I'm a big believer in fiscal conservatism. I don't believe in spending money that we don't have (most of the time).

Overall I'm a social democrat with a fiscal conservative side.
