Thread: Class Tax?

    Class Tax?

Your opinions on taxation based on class, like the income tax? Basically it's when the upper class is taxed, that money flows through some sort of bank, and it's redistributed equally to the middle class, and then the same thing happens to the middle class but the money goes to the lower class. Any comments?

No, communism is when a government gains full control of business and private corporations cease to exist...this is merely taxing the upper and middle class and equally redistributing it to the class below them...keep in mind this is an alternative to the income tax, although its a lot like it, only the money goes to the class below you instead of the government.

Oh INSTEAD of the government. You failed to mention that. My bad for not guessing.

    The bank, who controls it?

I'm not really for this plan because the lower class can eventually cease to exist if we got rid of a few things in this country, forms of debt, etc, I won't go into that. I'd make my own thread.

But anyway, yeah, who controls the bank? Federal Reserve? If so, then no that won't work.

Yeah, I haven't really considered who would control the bank...if the government did, it obviously would fail...any suggestions?

An interesting, if provocative (wait for the comments from the unrestrained capital supporters of this board ) concept.

Where it falls down is the method by which class is established. Class is a quasi-sociological concept, and notoriously difficult to define. Moreover it is a concept which varies enormously from one society to another.

I feel sure that you are referring to class as an indicator of wealth or income, but in my society, those elements have nothing to do with class. It is common in British society to have someone who is considered a representative of the very highest class, but who is nonetheless a pauper. It is also common to have multi-billionaires who would not be admitted to the better homes and establishments of the land.

So how would you define the upper, middle, and lower classes in society?

But the redistribution of wealth is an admirable aim, and I thank you for your interesting suggestion.

I suppose the process of actually determining the restrictions and characteristics of each class would have to take place. Here in America, wealth is mainly the primary factor that decides class. We would have to set a maximum and minimum wealth level per household in order to actually set each class in stone. As for the socialism comments, I view this as a very watered down version of socialism, and generally a larger step towards a mixed economy (which I prefer). I think the problem with many socialist and communist countries is that one day they just "decided" to be socialist. I think that's a terrible approach - if we gradually even out each class with a small amount of taxation, I think we can at least partially achieve one of the goals of socialism (the eradication of class division). Keep in mind, I defend unequal pay.
