    Can anyone teach me economics?

I'm holding the Berlitz Dictionary of American English. The price tag says US 18.95, CAN 24.95.

Fine. Except the dollars are very close to par right now. Almost equal. And the book was printed in the U.S. in 2006

Why doesn't the dollar value seem to affect anything at all in the way of imports? Our exports are more expensive, costing jobs and business, but I think logically imports should be cheaper, and therefor prices lower...creating jobs and business.

Is it simply a matter or Canadian retailers saying "wow, we got this cheaper but we'll still charge the same price. Haha Johnny Canuck"? Or is there a reason prices don't go down?

Also... I washed 6 pairs of socks. I now have 4 pairs and 2 individual unmatching socks. Explain this to me too....

Here's the first rule of economics. Supply and demand.

I demand all of your money. I can PM you my address and you can supply the postage to send it to me.

I want NOTHING to do with supporting that Air Canada add under my post. Fat old flight attendants bitching about their pay cuts while handing me a cold-cut sandwhich? No way.

    Singapore Air, all the way.

Retailers may be still selling product they bought when the dollar was lower. Depending on what the stock is and how fast to goes out the door, it may take anywhere from a month to over 6 months

But if Chapters is getting the book from Berlitz US for cheaper than in the past... they could increase the demand by lowering the price and still make the same profit. And I would have actually bought this dictionary isntead of cold-cocking the illiterate, pimpled clerk and running off with it, spilling my Starbucks latte all over the Adult Fiction section in the process.

    I've said too much already.

I ship all my unmatching pairs to Canadian second-hand stores, how they go from there to your laundry is beyond me.

Well there are other factors that may give us higher prices. For example...
-we have higher minimum wage so the Chapter employees in Canada will be making more money which you have to pay for.
    -Possibly shipping expenses.
    -my balls are big
-Tarifs, but this usally doesn't apply to imports of products made in the states. But this could be one reason why some products in the States will be cheaper than Canada (we may pay higher tax on imports from east asain countries, but I'm not sure)
    -I really dunno, ask Colin

No it has been in a tailspin, the Loonie is worth the same as the dollar now, soon the peso will be.
