U.S. terror group ignored amid raised threat?
Investigator says domestic cells involved in 9-11 still in business

Amid heightened security after Hezbollah threats and the foiled UK plot, an independent investigator of the Oklahoma City bombing contends a terrorist network allied with the Lebanese group and al-Qaida – allegedly responsible for more attacks on U.S. soil in the past 20 years than any other terrorist organization – remains a danger because of neglect by U.S. authorities.

Jamaat al-Fuqra, a Pakistani-based group with thousands of American members, has worked closely with Hezbollah, al-Qaida, Hamas and others on attacks in the U.S. – including the bombings of the World Trade Center in 1993, Oklahoma City's Murrah Federal Building in 1995 and the 9-11 attacks – but remains conspicuously absent from the State Department's terrorist list, asserts Oklahoma-based researcher Patrick Briley.

A former investigative aide to the late Adm. Hyman Rickover, Briley has poured himself into the Oklahoma City bombing case for the past decade, concluding the piles of evidence he has passed on to authorities through attorneys clearly points to the controversial conclusion Islamic terrorists used Americans Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols to carry out the plot.

Al-Fuqra, he says, is a key part of an Oklahoma City terrorist network that has participated in major attacks in the U.S. – and most importantly – remains in operation today.

Last month, the FBI said it stepped up its monitoring of Hezbollah operations in the U.S. after the terrorist group issued threats against American interests. But Briley insists that is a "hollow claim," charging the agency is "not doing enough to stop Hezbollah's protected helper in the U.S., al-Fuqra."

Responding to Briley's charge, FBI spokesman Stephen Kodak Jr. did not specifically elaborate on al-Fuqra but said counterterrorism is "the FBI's number one priority."

"The FBI takes all terrorism allegations extremely seriously," he said. "Each and every allegation with a terrorist nexus is fully investigated and run to its logical conclusion. Detecting and protecting Americans both in the U.S. and abroad against terrorists and acts of terrorism is our number one goal."

State Department spokeswoman Rhonda Shore, who handles counterterrorism issues, said she had not heard of al-Fuqra. Shore said she would try to find out why the terrorist group is not on the State Department's list, but she did not reply before press time.

Middle East analyst Daniel Pipes called al-Fuqra an extremely dangerous and "chilling organization" that has "operated below the radar for quite a few years."

Pipes, director of the Philadelphia-based Middle East Forum, told WND he could not speak to al-Fuqra's many alleged connections but agrees the group doesn't have the law enforcement attention it deserves.

Pipes said he thinks well of the FBI in terms of its classic criminal investigations, which it now applies to counterterrorism. But he is extremely critical of the agency as a political entity, pointing to "embarrassing" blunders. One example, he says is FBI chief Robert Mueller's overtures to the American Muslim Council's Abdurahman Alamoudi just months before the Islamic leader was arrested on terrorism-related charges.

The FBI's top brass, Pipes said, seems to have "no idea of the difference between a moderate and radical Muslim."

Joseph Bodansky, the former director of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, has affirmed al-Fuqra operations in the U.S. have been known to the FBI and CIA for more than two decades.

Al-Fuqra's founder and leader Sheik Mubarak Gilani, Briley points out, is a close associate of 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohmmed, who sent convicted conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui to live with al-Fuqra member Melvin Lattimore and attend flight school in Norman, Okla.

Lattimore was involved directly in the 1993 World Trade Center and Oklahoma City bombings and the 9-11 attacks as an al-Fuqra member but is "walking the streets of America," Briley says.

Gilani at one time was in Pakistani custody for the abduction of American journalist Daniel Pearl. Intelligence sources determined Pearl was attempting to meet with Gilani in the days before he disappeared in Karachi and later was beheaded. Intelligence sources also suggest a link between al-Fuqra and Richard Reid, the infamous "shoe bomber" who attempted to ignite explosives aboard a Paris-to-Miami passenger flight Dec. 22, 2001.

Beltway sniper John Muhammad also has been tied to al-Fuqra, and Briley says there is a lot of circumstantial evidence that links the group to Oklahoma University bomber Joel Hinrichs.

Briley says the upcoming congressional hearings into a possible foreign terrorist connection to the Oklahoma City bombing – spearheaded by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif. – is an opportunity to spotlight the activities of al-Fuqra in the U.S. and find out why the group has been kept off the U.S. State Department Terror list.

"There is a great lack of confidence that the FBI and Department of Justice leadership and supervisors in D.C. will adequately handle this Oklahoma terror network information, since they have been aware of it for two decades and still have not done the right thing," Briley said.

Briley says Bodansky, in his role as Congress's counterterrorism source, made Rohrabacher aware of al-Fuqra's terrorist activities and believes there was a Muslim connection to the Oklahoma City.

Al-Fuqra has more than two dozen "Jamaats," or private communities, loosely connected and scattered throughout the U.S. with an estimated 5,000 members.

As WorldNetDaily reported, the group is using Islamic schools in the United States as training facilities, including an encampment in the Catskill Mountains near Hancock, N.Y., called "Holy Islamberg." According to an investigative report, neighboring residents were deeply concerned about military-style training taking place there and frustrated by an apparent lack of attention from federal authorities.

The terrorist group seeks to counter "excessive Western influence on Islam" through any means necessary, publicly embracing the ideology that violence is necessary to purify Islam. The enemies of Islam, the group says, are all non-Muslims and any Muslim who does not follow the tenets of fundamentalist Islam as detailed in the Quran.

Many of its attacks in the 1980s, in fact, targeted Islamic sects as well as other minority religious groups.

Al-Fuqra openly recruits through various social service organizations in the U.S., including the prison system. Members live in compounds where they agree to abide by the laws of Jamaat al-Fuqra, which are considered to be above local, state and federal authority.

The group has been known to recruit disaffected young men to carry out U.S. terror attacks, including blacks, white supremacists, illegal immigrants and Native Americans as well as inmates.

Saudi cleric sees U.S. collapsing, Muslim victory
Al-Jazeera broadcasts remarks on upcoming 'battle' with 'enemies of Allah'
    Posted: May 5, 2006

In a lecture that touched on the meaning of jihad, a leading Saudi cleric declared the United States is collapsing and Muslims must patiently await their ultimate victory.

Sheik Nasser bin Suleiman Al-Omar said in remarks broadcast on the Arab satellite network Al-Jazeera April 19, "The Islamic nation now faces a great phase of jihad," according to the Middle East Media Research Institute.

Referring to sacred Muslim writings that accompany the Quran, the sheik said, "Whoever is familiar with the Sunna and the Hadith knows that a battle against the enemies of Allah awaits on the horizon, in which the Muslims will be victorious. This is confirmed by the reliable hadiths, as well as by reality."

Jihad is now taking place in Afghanistan, "Palestine," Iraq, Chechnya, Kashmir and the Philippines, he said.

Meanwhile, the sheik asserted to his audience, love for America is "now disappearing from the hearts, within America itself and elsewhere, whereas Islam is growing even within America, my brothers."

"Islam is making steady progress in America," Al-Omar said. "Twenty-five thousand people have converted to Islam every year since 9-11, and an even larger figure was mentioned in the New York Times."

The sheik cited a report "submitted by the American intelligence to the American officials, regarding the religion of Islam, which some think is defeated or weak today," saying Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world and Muslims soon will become one-third of the world's population.

He quoted a "U.S. Congressman John Morlan" – there is no representative by that name – who supposedly said: "The 21st century is the century of Islam, which will offer an opportunity for peace in the world."

The sheik added: "There is no doubt that it is Islam that will bring peace, and not the U.N., America, Russia, or anyone else."

Interviewed for a PBS "Frontline" documentary on the House of Saud in December 2004, Al-Omar opposed the rewriting of Saudi religious textbooks to eliminate anti-Western, anti-Jewish teachings, and he was one of 26 prominent Saudi clerics who signed a fatwa saying Iraqis should rise up and oppose the Americans in Iraq.

In the Al Jazeera lecture, turning to Iraq, Al-Omar said that with its casualties, "America is now in a predicament."

"You follow the media. America is looking for a way out," he said. "Yes, I am aware of the harsh reality. I am aware of what is happening to our Muslim brothers in Iraq, and I'm referring especially to the Sunni Arabs, against whom all have conspired and who have been deserted by their closest friends."

The sheik claimed American reports of the number of casualties in Iraq, about 2,000, are false. He cited "one of the news agencies" and "several of Iraq's religious scholars" who claim there have been more than 40,000 American and Western casualties in three years.

Al-Omar said Americans are dumping their casualties in the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, prompting Iraqi scholars to ask him for a fatwa.

The sheik explained: "Because there were so many casualties, the Americans began to throw them into the Tigris and the Euphrates. The fish have eaten from the flesh of the American and have gotten fat. Are we permitted to eat these fish or not?' Yes. This is the truth, brothers."

Al-Omar said the "Islamic nation now faces a great phase of jihad, unlike anything we knew 50 years ago."

Fifty years ago, jihad was attributed only to a few individuals in Palestine, and in some other Muslims areas, he said, but "following the events of Afghanistan, the nation has embraced jihad. Young and old, men and women - everyone is talking about jihad."

Some young Muslims today, however, because of their "love for jihad," are getting involved in conflicts that are not properly jihad, he said, adding "all these minor battles, which took place in certain Muslim countries, only delay the victory."

"This diverts the strife and calamity into the lands of the Muslims, instead of aiming them directly at the enemies," he said.

In a June 13, 2004, interview with Al-Majd television, Al-'Omar said "America is collapsing from within."

"Where are America's principles of justice and democracy?" he asked. " … Is America now, with its reputation and status, the same America of 30 years ago – the source of hope for many people?"

Islam is "advancing according to a steady plan," the sheik said, "to the point that tens of thousands of Muslims have joined the American army and Islam is the second largest religion in America."

"Today," he said, "America is defeated. I have no doubt, not even for a minute, that America is on its way to destruction."

But the United States "will be destroyed gradually," he said, requiring Muslims to be "patient."

MEMRI recently reported Libyan Leader Moammar Gadhafi declared in a speech aired on Al Jazeera that Islam will take over Europe without violent force within a few decades.

"We have 50 million Muslims in Europe," Gadhafi said. "There are signs that Allah will grant Islam victory in Europe – without swords, without guns, without conquests. The 50 million Muslims of Europe will turn it into a Muslim continent within a few decades."

I don't know, maybe because they were brainwashed into thinking that white people and the American way of life is evil because whiney liberals kept pounding it into their heads?

I think you're imagining your country to be something it never was, filled with people who never really existed, responsible for events that happened quite differently than they've been repeated. When the past is idealised (to say it nicely, deliberately perverted by hysterical idological propaganda to put it another way) then the present can never live up to it and there's always an enemy to blame for it.

America is a country with some people in it. That is the full and entire package, It will wax and wane in power and wealth, the people in it will change langauges, change beliefs, change religions, change appearance... borders will be redrawn, politics will be unrecognisable.50 years after. Llike all other nations it will evolve endlessly depite short-sighted people's best efforts to keep it the same as their grnadparnets told them it used to be (even though it never was).

During the Civil War, what would your forfathers have said to the idea that a Southener would be President? Imagine the venom, the contempt, the outrage, the sheer fury that suggestion would have received during that time from either side

Chill out - the world is full of people who aren't white Christians. Deal with it. It's not your land, it was stolen from Indians who stole it from other Indians. Everything that's being thrown around about Mexicans and Muslims used to be thrown around about Catholics. Then it changed to Italians and Irish. Then it was the greta enemy Germans. Then Chinese. Then Japanese were buying the country in the 80's and everyone was gonna be doing morning calesthenics and helpless to pretect their women.

It just goes on and on and it's always silly. Human beings live on earth. That's the end of the story. That's it. The difference between you and your never-ending list of enemies is skin pigmentation and a passport. Not one tiny little thing more.

Yes, you're right. And I suppose I imagined planes being plowed through the twin towers too, huh? And I suppose I'm just imagining things when I hear that these Mooselimbs want to kill everything that doesn't worship Allah. All these horror stories on the news are all just good ol' white boy propaganda, right? Yeah, it's just my paranoia of people with a different skin pigmentation because I lean more to the conservative side....which means I must be a racist pig, right?

You people better wake up. Perhaps when buildings start blowing up in YOUR neighborhood, you will.

Deal with it. It's not your land, it was stolen from Indians who stole it from other Indians.
Well... they weren't "Indians" and Native Americans aren't Indians either. Remember, Columbus had thought he was in India when he came upon America, thinking that the peoples there were "Indians." And NO, this land wasn't stolen from Indians as the "Indians" weren't the first ones here.

The emerging answer suggests that they were not Asians of Mongoloid stock who crossed a land bridge into Alaska 11,500 years ago, as the textbooks say, but different ethnic groups, from places very different from what scientists thought even a few years ago. What's more, stone tools, hearths and remains of dwellings unearthed from Peru to South Carolina suggest that Stone Age America was a pretty crowded place for a land that was supposed to be empty until those Asians followed herds of big game from Siberia into Alaska. A far different chronicle of the First Americans is therefore emerging from the clash of theories and discoveries that one anthropologist calls "skull wars." According to the evidence of stones and bones, long before Ellis Island opened its doors America was a veritable Rainbow Coalition of ethnic types, peopled by southern Asians, East Asians—and even, perhaps, Ice Age Europeans, who may have hugged the ice sheets in their animal-skin kayaks to reach America millenniums before it was even a gleam in Leif Ericson's eye. "It's very clear to me," says anthropologist Dennis Stanford of the Smithsonian Institution, "that we are looking at multiple migrations through a very long time period—migrations of many different peoples of many different ethnic origins."

The standard story of the peopling of the Americas holds that wanderers from Northeast Asia fanned out across the Great Plains, into the Southwest and eventually the East to become the founding populations of today's Native Americans. Stone spear points found in Clovis, N.M., in the 1930s were dated at 11,000 years ago and hailed as evidence of the oldest human settlement in the New World. The story was so tidy that any skeletons that seemed to challenge this "Clovis model" were shoved back into the closet by the mandarins of American anthropology; any stone tools that seemed older than Clovis were dismissed as misdated. Clovis had American archeology in a stranglehold; James Adovasio of Mercyhurst College in Pennsylvania calls its defenders the "Clovis mafia."
The small band of hunter-gatherers made its summer camp on the riverbank, at the northern end of the region through which they followed the seasonal game. The location, 45 miles southeast of what is now Richmond, Va., was ideal: winds from the north kept the flying insects down. Some of the band would spend their days striking long, slender quartz flakes from stone cores; others made triangular and pentagonal spear points for the hunt. It was 15,050 years ago; the erstwhile "First Americans" would not make the trek across the Bering Strait for 3,500 more years.
