The addresses to the nation by the president are broadcaated because most viewers want to see what he has to say, and it increases the number of people watching a station 5-fold. This is true, BTW, in any nation, with any president of that nation.

Thank you LC, it's good to see someone that can think for themself.
sorry davidy, I have to say that I also work for a media giant. I hear the edits made and the closed captions that prove a change in verbage in ALL "stories" aired. I hear the producers' meetings as to what is being aired that day and how it is to be worded.
Humans will always put ego in front of an unbiased report. It's human nature. It is virtually impossible to write a report (which is nothing more than biased objection in the view of the reporter) that does not "askew" ever so slightly in the view that you are "passionate" towards (or are "directed" to).
I work in radio we can not change verbage to say something that is not intended to be said. I have watched the president's speeches on TV, and so far, they have been verbatum.
If you work for a network that changes his words on closed caption on purpose, the public and the FCC should know, and I am curious which one does that, because giving words in closed caption that are not being said would be a major story on that network. The public deserves to know if they are being lied to. It takes away credibillity of the network, and viewers will no longer trust them.
This is why media avoids doing this, and my boss will not allow changing words to mean something they were not intended to.

Propaganda washes both ways.
well, that's what happens. a simple addition or change of an adjective here and there can easily change the public's opnion of a situation. Example
Hezz has fired 123 rockets into Israel today. EDIT: Hezz guerillas have launched 123 deadly rockets into Israel.
Don't tell me that no news agency doesn't do this.
So, to clarify myself, they are not changing the story in which you have percieved. If I didn't word myself correctly, that's my fault. But adding or changing adjectives is always done.
That is because no one wants to word things exactly the same as another news person. Then they get accused of copying.
